Volkswagen’s Piech Has Got A Hankering for Motorcycles
Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piech controls a company that builds a wide swath of vehicle types, but there is one that the chairman still believes is missing…the motorcycle.
In a recent interview by German magazine Stern, Piech said that he would still like “a small, valuable motorcycle manufacturer.

I almost feel bad "suggesting" this, since Piech's management decisions haven't necessarily been for the best, but bringing Norton back from the dead would be an interesting crusade. I seriously wish BMW had thought about doing this during their Anglocentric binge in the '90s - would have been a nice sportsy complement to their more stolid traditional image - but as far as reputations for the taking, it's hard to find a better one (or one easier to rectify).

Moto Guzzi. Please, for God's sake, Moto Guzzi!
Piech gave us the R32 and the Phaeton. Beetle too. Put Quattro in Audi.
Moto Guzzi, please! I'd like an updated 850 Le Mans I...and maybe a proper Quota update.
We can always dream...

VW in the bike bidness? Well, last time I checked, Ducati's fortunes haven't been great since TPG moved on. The Big 4 from Japan aren't for sale, H-D is probably too big. That leaves Triumph and KTM, Piaggio and it's divisions, plus the various cruiser clones in the U.S., and BMW wants to hang on to Husqvarna. What about the Korean or Chinese motorcycles?
Meanwhile, VW probably still owns the motorcycle rights to the DKW and NSU names. Can the world support another German motorcycle heritage brand? I don't think so, and it sounds like VW doesn't either.
