The Stig Revealed: Who is this (Un)Masked Man?

thestigseyeshl.jpg

Huge news in the continued hunt (for those of you interested in knowing) for the identity of Top Gear’s ever-helmeted test driver, The Stig.

While the racing suit clad The Stig never appears in public with out his trademark dark-visor helmet, said visor is apparently not sufficiently opaque to keep from being compromised under the bright light of a camera's flash. This slip was discovered yesterday, when this photograph was taken, unintentionally revealing the thousand-yard stare of the motoring icon.

While the slim visage is hardly enough to give conclusive proof of The Stig’s true identity, it certainly opens things up for even more speculation. Starting here. Take a close look at the eyes in the photo, and give us your best guess of who might be wearing the white helmet in comments.

Younger guy, Caucasian (I think)...doesn't look like Jenson Button, maybe Mark Webber?

Seriously?

It's pretty obvious the whole idea behind the Stig is that they can rotate through available drivers on a job-by-job basis without long-term contracting. The nature of making a television show kind of demands it, don't you think? Further, it would be a hassle to take on a driver as a full time employee of the BBC for a huge number of reasons.

The cat is out of the bag. It's Me!!!

Jeb

Yeah, but the fun is trying to figure out who THIS Stig is. Because whoever is (or are) the Stig still turns some marvelously fast laps.

imoore

Does it really matter? The whole intent and purpose of the Stig is to add an air of mystery and excitement to the show? If his (or her) identitiy is revealed, this will take all the fun out of watching the show. And you thought the paparazzi chasing celebrities for cheesy photographs was dumb and stupid. Just leave well enough alone.

Sharky

I think it's George Michael.

Here's a hint: He betrayed and murdered your father... from a certain point of view.

The only way to know for sure is to have a sample of his tears, because "they say his tears are adhesive, they also say that he once threw a microwave at a bump, his holiness, the Stig!!!"

1. you can tell hes got blue eyes if you look close egnough

2. hes almost definitely a test driver due to him having a lot of time on his hand

3. there is only one doing the power laps to ensure fairness and he probably does the most of the other driving like when they did britcar

4. there is probably another actor like when they interviewed him after hed
been a star in a reasonably priced car
and when he went on public transport

5. they have specialists do the stunt like the snow mobile skii jump

andy

i downloaded loads of drivers pics , cut out the eyes and placed them next to the stigs, now damon hills were the perfect match, but i agree with detroit9000, i dont think its just 1 driver/person, more like 3 or 4, so if that pic is damon hill above as my experiment suggests, i believe the next eyes to be to be captured will be different, most drivers would be to busy to do it full time, especially damon hill he has loads on. this could go on forever as they could change drivers from series to series,
