Tata Motors Looking to Acquire a Stake in MV Agusta?

With the ink barely dry on the deal to acquire Jaguar and Land Rover, Tata Motors is reportedly looking at the possible investment in another European manufacturer.
This time the target is said to be Italian motorcycle company MV Agusta, with several Indian and Italian sources reporting that Ratan Tata is currently in talks with MV’s Claudio Castiglioni about purchasing a stake in the company. The Tata Motors chairman has already proven that he has expensive tastes, previously expressing interest in acquiring a portion of Ferrari, and could be a good fit for the automaker’s portfolio.
MV has developed some impressive products, even on the smallish budget the company currently operates under, and could be even more of a player with an influx of Indian cash. Have a look at one of the newer MVs, the super bad Brutale 910R, in our gallery below.

First Pininfarina, and now this. Who's next? Avanti, maybe? How about Packard? Or Maybe Fiat?

Could it possibly be just so they can use their engines in small cars? I know cycle engines are typically not tuned for torque, however I know some lightweight vehicles get by (someone made a smartfortwo powered by a suzuki 1000 engine I think)...

I don't thin that's what they would be looking for, they would probably be able to find more flexible bike engines than MV Augusta engines to power small cars. Just my thoughts, but it seems they could find something better for a small econocar.

I don't see an MV engine being applied for compact motorcars, given the actual costs associated with an MV powertrain. I wouldn't pay too much to this even if it is true. De Tomaso built himself a little motorized empire in the 1980s...and look where that got the de Tomaso nameplate.

I doubt they'd be using a motorycle engine in a small car, although if they don't detune them, it'd probably be rather fun. I used to dislike the streetfighter look of the MV Agustas, but the more I look at them, the nicer they look.
