Schumacher Makes Mid-Pack DTM Debut
Ralf Schumacher’s debut at the wheel of his German DTM Mercedes was nearly as inauspicious as his departure from Formula One.
The former Grand Prix winner finished a humbling 14th at the DTM race at Hockenheim on Sunday, the lower part of the middle of the pack for that series. Though Schumacher had said that this year will be a learning experience in DTM, the poor result is not likely to be viewed well by the German public. One German newspaper, Bild am Sonntag, took pains to point out the fact that Schumacher finished just ahead of the race’s two female competitors.
Schumacher seemed to take the race in stride saying, “It was okay. I made no major mistakes and I knew that I would not begin right at the front.

yeah, it really sucks when you have a bigger brother who is an achiever.

well worth mentioning, ralf is not racing a 2007 car. considering how impressive the showing was from the new r13 a4 even in comparison to the 2008 c-class, it should come at no great surprise that he wasn't on the podium.
[Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport](http://germancarscene.com/2008/04/12/mercedes-benz-dtm-hockenheim-qualif...): "There is an interesting fact concerning Ralf Schumacher’s DTM debut: With his last year’s car, he posted a time, which had been good for second on the grid here in the DTM premiére a year ago, 56 thousandths behind pole."

bugger, i meant to say he was not racing a 2008 car…

Not giving him a 2008 car is strange. I guess they were like "nobody will mind once we explain that he is in a 2007 car." Huh?
