Report: Mercedes To Kill Off A-Class
According to an item in WirtschaftsWoche, a German business publication, Mercedes-Benz will drop its diminutive A-class lineup. Built since 1997, the A-class had been slated for a revamping in 2011.
The A-class, Mercedes-Benz’s first front-drive production passenger car, has accounted for nearly 1.5 million units since 1997, though the model hasn’t been without its fair share of controversy.
Not long after it was launched, the automaker suffered a high-profile embarrassment when the A-class was found to roll over during a high-speed emergency lane change maneuver dubbed the “Moose Test.

According to the WiWo article, Mercedes want to keep only one "city car", currently they have the A-Class and the larger B-Class. The A/B-Class successor will be conceptually closer to the B-Class than the A-Class. Also, Zetsche reportedly wants a new entry-level Mercedes to compete against the small BMWs and Audis.

wow. for never seeing the car before, i personally think it looks like an aveo.
but if they're making something to compete with the smaller bmw's and audi's, one can only assume they're bringing them here too, which is nice.

A product like the A150 doesn't help an upscale car brand's image; it serves to sell in volume. The A150 doesn't make for an impressive car, either: the suggested retail price is £14,000 with a 4 cyl. petrol engine making less than 100 hp. When you consider that Honda Jazz can run circles around this car for thousands less, you can see Mercedes-Benz had its own troubles during the Chrysler years.

Aveo is right...that's what I thought when I first saw it.

The A-class needed to be a lot cheaper and marketed as a larger Smart. For that matter the B-Class should be a Smart also
