The F1 was the greatest car of the twentieth century. It will be a hard act to follow by any account. A car can be faster, but will it have the beautiful engineering and craftsmanship?
The rumor-traffickers at Autocar are reporting that McLaren’s on-again, off-again supercar successor to the legendary F1 is back on track.
The mid-engined car started life as the stillborn Mercedes-Benz P8, but McLaren has taken over the project entirely, and plans to market the car on its own.
If the buzz surrounding the project is correct, the car is to be built on a carbon-fiber monocoque, though it is unclear what the production “F2” will have for a drivetrain. According to Autocar, development mules are already up and running around McLaren’s Woking compound in England, cleverly disguised beneath Ferrari 360 bodywork.

The F2 will be a F-430,Gallardo, Audi R8 kind of car. It will be less $ than a modern McLaren F-1,FXX,MC12 level hypercar. I would guess it to be not quite as fast as the F-1 was, but better a value.
I hope they keep the three seater layout.
In what aspect exactly will it put the veyron to shame and HOW? Please enlighten us about your certainty.

How will the F2 put the Volkswagen Veyron to shame, you ask?
It’s not an overweight, overpriced Passat, that’s how. The Veyron has 1001 Hp, wonderful. I know a retired construction foreman named Bubba whose Chevelle has 1100 Hp, and it cost him less than a tenth what the Veyron cost. Weighs less, too.
Any redneck with phallic security issues can make a car that has 4-figure horsepower. The beauty of McLarens (and not that bloated SLR crap, either), is that they can go around corners! Yeah, someday the folks at Lambo, Mercedes, and Volkswagen (I refuse to call that thing a Bugatti, even a Royale) will have to learn that all the world isn’t a drag strip or 2.5 mile superspeedway. Most of us real folk have to make turns.
