Racy Renault Alpine A310 Found on eBay

a310.jpg

With respect to WINDING ROAD readers whose tastes run to the more conventional side of automobila, is there anything cooler than old French sports cars?

Claiming to be (and we’d believe it) the only 1977 Renault Alpine A310 in the country, it’s not often that one of these esoteric Porsche 911 fighters comes up for sale outside of Europe. The fact that this A310 is super clean and presented in Alpine’s own racing livery makes it even more exceptional.

With a 2.7-liter V-6 hung out back and ultra-light construction, the French sports car promises to be a drive that isn’t easily forgotten. Always seen as a 911 rival, the Alpine has the additional pedigree of great racing success, including a victory in the 1977 French Rally Championship. At the very least, the lucky winner of this auction will be a member of a much more exclusive club than is available to mere 911 drivers.

Whether it’s fielding questions from enthusiasts, or pushing the car to ten-tenths on an open mountain road, we’re sure that the Renault’s future owner will bask in automotive richness. Bon chance!

Wow. That IS impressive and a welcome change to the norm of Camaros, Mustangs, and Corvettes that make eBay Motors a snooze fest. Considering how small a mark Renault had in the United Stated (and how even the famed A110 in pretty unknown), this is a special item.

Way cooler than the one listed above.

I have always liked the Alpine series; those cars were exciting, fast, and unique. I could certainly have some fun with one.

There is another one on there too. Yellow in color, and I think the buy it now price is $16,500.00

I don't get squat for helping sell these things, but it is interesting to see 2 of them for sale.

I have to imagine either one would be a blast to drive, and certainly would be a head turner. Hmmmm wonder how much I can get a 2nd on my house for......

Alexander:

The UK classic car press is full of coverage on the Renault A110 The A110 may not be very powerful or have the rep, say, the Porsche 911 had, but it is a true lightweight sports car with authentic rally credentials. While the A110 did not have an official presence in America, I do believe some were exported to Mexico.

The A310 is one of the few examples of European 1970s sports cars that looked great and maintained the series' character. If only I could say the same about the US Fords and Pontiacs of the period.

Much as the Porsche 917 replaced the Ford GT40 as a Le Mans icon, the only car after the A110 that truly kept the integrity of the Renault (superb engineering and a great race record) is the Lancia Stratos, which is much harder to find--less than five hundred were produced.

Arg. I am in France and I've never seen one now that I live in Paris (can see some in the South, near the Alps, Mediterranean sea, all places where you can have nice curves and straight lines with beautiful weather).

Oh, btw, it's "Bonne chance", but with the english accent "Bon chance" *can* be accepted :p

Wow, I read this, and the next day I see a Red A310 parked at the Ann Arbor Airport on the way to work. I would not have known what is was except for the article.
