Production Ford Kuga Spied in Europe

CarPix captured these clear shots of Ford’s Kuga CUV from this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

We’re still not sure why Ford won’t bring the Kuga to the U.S. That 2.0-liter diesel engine and all-wheel drive would be a great combination for U.S. drivers who want the security of all-wheel drive and some better fuel economy than products like the Edge or Escape currently offer.

Europeans will begin taking delivery of this handsome CUV in 2008. We’re happy this vehicle will head to production virtually unchanged from the vehicle shown at Frankfurt. The looks are hip and it certainly looks like it belongs in Ford’s European portfolio.

Check out these new photos and beg Ford to bring the Kuga to the States in comments.

Ford, bring this to the U.S. It has to appeal to compete with the European and Asian vehicles that are stealing your show in the States.

Maybe Winding Road’s next contest could be for a chance to meet with Ford execs to talk some sense into them.

Bring it in as-is with the diesel and I’m a buyer! (But not above $30,000 4WD loaded) Average new car prices are getting WAY out of line in relation to Average wages…

This is the perfect Escape replacement! The Escape was a great truck that’s currently in need of major replacement. Bring the Kuga here or build it here, either way just sell it in North America! Ford’s Euro products have great interior materials and style, they can easily move slightly upmarket in like in VW territory with products like this, and be more profitable since these products wouldn’t require huge incentives to sell! Offer the diesel too, products like this are what we need on this side of the Atlantic. I’d take a 2.0 diesel in Black!!

If won’t come here and if it does, it won’t be with the diesel engine (not even as an option.

If it came to the states…. I will be lining up to buy it… Looks like it would run about 30k??? Looks better then anything out there and more practical for city driving….

Hey Ford!!! You want my money or not???

hwyhobo December 7th, 2007 5:01 PM Link

$30K? What are you folks talking about? This is essentially “CUVized” Ford Fiesta diesel (a subcompact). Focus is bigger. Fiesta is one of the cheapest Fords in Europe. It should cost around $15K here, $18K fully loaded.

And yes, I agree it will not be brought here as is, with diesel. Neither will be the diesel Focus Hatchback. Ford execs are too dumb for it. They will just introduce a hybrid version of Ford Expedition for the US market, add low hanging skirts, and maybe spinner hubcaps as options. I heard the retarded gangbangers is the fastest growing market sector.

Oh please let this be my next Escape!

John December 8th, 2007 4:27 PM Link

You can beg all you want. Dearborn won’t listen. They have to protect the Escape, which is their only successful SUV stateside at present.

Ford can’t bring this or Mondeo or any european model over because of a falling dollar. It just doesn’t make sense. Nobody is going to pay 25-30 grand for this.

no… they could tool it up and build it in the states like the Focus. I’d buy 2 Kugas (Kugi?), or maybe a Verve and a Kuga and park ‘em out front of the Condo.

Ford needs to fall behind all import manufacturers before they will honor consumer demands. 30+ years owning Ford products and I will only purchase a new
diesel AWD or 4WD vehicle. Does anybody know of US import brokers for the Kuga? Guess I’ll wait for the Subaru Diesel.

Mr. Mulally, instead of changing names for cars, why not do what GM does and grab some great cars from the European(Australian) portfolio (a la Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice/Pontiac G8/Saturn Vue). Follow “Maximum Bob” Lutz’s lead and bring us some great product without having to spend the huge development cost to do it.

I just bought a 2008 Mazda CX-7 and would gladly have bought the Kuga if available (I looked at the Escape, but the styling/handling/interior of the CX-7 sold me). At least I kept my purchase in the Ford family.

Bring us the European: Mondeo/Kuga/Focus… and while your at it, put an IRS on the next Mustang to compete with the new Camaro/Challenger.. and I’ll be shopping for a Ford when my lease expires…

Will of San Francisco January 15th, 2008 10:32 PM Link

This looks like a dream come true, but I doubt it will meet the strict CA emission standards without some modifications …..sigh:-(

I have been scouring the landscape fpr a small CUV/SUV with a diesel. There are several vehicles on the way (Volvo XC60, VW Tiguan, Audi Q5 and the Saab 94), but nothing that suits my taste today except maybe the Kuga.

For some reason Ford believes the US is not ready for diesels which is a shame. Ford, I hope your paying attention….Price this puppy at $25K and you will crush the competition. Equipit with Sync and it will become your #1 seller in the US within a year! The US market is dying for this vehicle, please don’t make us wait.
