Lotus Launches New Entry Level 2-Eleven Track Car

lotus-2-eleven-2hl.jpg

Widely praised for its prowess on the racetrack, the track special Lotus 2-Eleven has been a winner for enthusiasts since its introduction at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. One year on, and Lotus felt the need to offer up some racing thrills for those with just a little less in the way of disposable income.

Lotus has introduced a new entry level 2-Eleven, which may not pack quite the same punch as the original, but isn’t likely to leave most owners feeling slow. Though the new car gets a 189 horsepower engine from the Elise R instead of the 252 horsepower mill from the higher spec racer, that power is still enough to give the budget 2-Eleven a top speed of 140 mph and a 0 to 60 time of only 4.3 seconds. Not bad performance considering the new car saves a considerable 15,000 euros over the old model (€34,695 to €49,573).

Perspective buyers will also be able to kit out their 2-Eleven with plenty of choices from the Lotus Sport performance catalog.

Why not buy a Corvette for less and go faster?

In the US, maybe. In the UK, the 2008 Corvette C6 Coupe price starts at £45995. I believe the entry level 2-Eleven is £15000 less.

This car would smoke a Corvette on a road course which where you'd be driving it. Hell, a regular Elise smokes Vettes (and other cars) on a road course.

@ mena, prove what you say when you say it (although you might be totally right). if i have to choose between a vette and this ...... the vette will be my choice, just because it would be a more practical machine that has almost the same performance. as well, the vette looks like a real car, not like a go karting vehicle. you know in countries such as england ppl there rarely see the sun and it is mostly rain, guess then which car would be better in rain.
P.S: no hard feeling i hope, i just hate cars that are designed for one purpose only.

mo, the purpose of this vehicle is to race not to drive around the city streets in (It's not road legal in the US). The Corvette and this car have different buyers. One wants a great race car on the cheap (relatively speaking), the other wants a fast street car. There are Corvette owners that race their cars but MOST of them don't buy them for that reason. A Lotus owner and particularly a Lotus 2-Eleven owner, buys the car to race.

... Because race tracks have corners and Vettes don't do corners nearly as well.
If you're really into cars and driving quickly you're better off spending less money on a track car and competing with like minded people but ultimately I guess it depends whether you like driving fast or posing...
