Ford to Bring Production Kuga to Geneva Motor Show

After several different iterations as a concept, as well as some early spy shots of the near final version, Ford has release images of its production ready Kuga CUV ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Kuga looks to be another sweet package that is for now, for European consumption only. The stylish crossover is based on the Euro-Focus chassis, which also underpins the capable Mazda3 here in the U.S. Power comes courtesy of a 2.0-liter Duratorq diesel engine, which is said to produce 136 horsepower, and 236 pound-feet of twist.

Kuga will come in two trim levels, Trend and Titanium, which basically represent the front and four-wheel-drive models respectively. All Kuga’s will come equipped with ABS braking, ESP, and Anti Rollover Mitigation. The CUV will also offer a usefully configurable cabin, with seating for five, and a 60/40-split rear seat.

Is the Kuga a package that would appeal to you, were Ford to bring it stateside? Have your say in comments.

Come on Ford - get those European products over here. This should be the 2009 Escape.

Yes, as long as it has the diesel.

Likemost Fords today it is too high off the ground.

^ What? It's an SUV... :\

Can't they just call it the Cougar and be done with it, instead of annoying us all into the Subaru showroom?

"Yes, as long as it has the diesel."

As long as it has the diesel? What fumes are you sniffing? How many diesel Jeeps has Chrysler sold in the past year? It's not an essential market in America. This thing looks much nicer than the Honda CR-Vs, Toyota RAV4s, and Escapes we have in the States. I would much rather see this than the current crop of small sport-utes we have here.

The liberty CRD has a fantastic engine in a middling quality car. It was also un-advertised and produced in a small number. I know a guy who bought a gas liberty who did not even know it was offered in a diesel.

I am betting that if ford brought a diesel, advertised the mileage, and put it in a solid automobile they could not keep them on the lot.

Bring it to the USA.

The diesel liberty has been a bit of a mechanical disaster. Software issues also. Search the yahoo group.

Clean diesel seems to involve a bit too much chemistry and physics for joe average to maintain. If we can improve it at reasonable cost, then lets rock. Awesome thermal effeciency.

Does anyone else see the Tribeca in this?

Yes. But a nice looking tribeca.

I doubt this will be the 2009 Escape (they just freshened it after all) but I'd be willing to bet that it will be the 2010 Escape introduced mid 2009 as the 2010 model. Mullally has already made it quite clear that Ford will be consolidating its models worldwide.
