First Look: Mercedes-Benz’s R8-Fighting SLC Super Coupe!
Rumors have swirled for some time about Mercedes-Benz’s desire to build a new high-end sports car to compete with the likes of Porsche’s 911 Turbo and Audi’s pending higher-power V-10 R8 coupe (whose name has yet to be disclosed).

I agree with Detroit9K. I've never driven a Mercedes that, on the track, was the least bit entertaining, although the AMG versions can be wickedly fast, as long as you never have to turn the cars. Too much weight, and they never have gotten the suspension tuning right for anything other than going fast on the autobahn.

I am, as joe, confused about giving such a car. they have a CL AMG and a SL AMG, so what is exactly this. if they want something to go against the R8, make the SL AMG lighter and here you go.

Looks like it is just some after-market mods on the current SL. And what's up with that rear spoiler? I think that's bad taste!

As to weight, the competition is pretty chubby, too. The Ferrari 599 GTB weighs in at 3,700 lbs. The Aston-Martin Vanquish S weighs 4,100 lbs. The SL65 AMG runs at a truck-like 4,600 lbs. The BMW M6 cabrio comes in a close second with 4,400 lbs. Something about the Germans liking obesity as much as us.

im still waiting for the diesel they did a prototype of a year ago... with same power but like 40 mpg!! then people would actually drive it!! what happened!!?? why are they pretending gas is $1/gallon and there is no war right now!!?? and i like the spoiler.. it might be needed also!!

Come on guys, be serious. You really think MB is going agains the R8 with something like that? It need at least the aerodinamics of the SLR, but the picture doesn't really suggest that, not to mention all the other things. Get real, they don't know shit.

This looks like a regular SL with an aftermarket hood and spoiler. Wouldn't a test mule have body panel cover's and different lights? The car in this looks like it's ready for production, not like most "spy photo's of a test mule."

Although the older model SL (from 03 on) has become outdated in my mind, the prototype pic peaks my interests. If they use that model with the new CL face, I'll go for it! I ALMOST want to say that I'll go for the column shifter also, but that may be a bit too far? lol
