Is it just me, or could one pop off that MG octagon, replace it with a Dodge badge and spoof the Cerberus guys?
MG fans will be happy to hear that new Chinese owners Shanghai Automobile Corporation (SAIC) seem to be moving along at full speed towards the goal of producing an all new TF roadster.
Auto Express has used what it calls “insider information” to develop these renderings of the new model, which is said to be targeted at such European droptops as the Alfa Romeo Spider and the Audi TT, as well as the dominating Mazda MX-5. The new TF will be slightly larger than the Mazda but is said to be shooting for a very similar price tag, along with the hearts and minds of the roadster-crazy British public.
The new car will be based on the Roewe 550 compact hatchback, though its driven wheels will be in the back, and will be powered by either a 1.8-liter turbo or a 2.5-liter V-6. The MG TF could be available through a new Roewe dealership network in the UK by 2010. Please don’t republish crap from AutoExpress. This is the automotive equalivent to The National Enquirer. If you go back and check on the vehicles and rumours they’ve reported, you will see NOTHING has to come to fruition. If you read their stories, you will see NO ONE with any authority quoted. Why is that? Because these clowns make it up as they go. Get this trash off your site, or I am gone.

P.S. Sure AutoExpress can “exclusively reveal” this information…because they just made it up.
I can exclusively reveal that a UFO just landed on the White House lawn and Elvis emerged, wearing a pinwheel hat and a knapsack.
I can exclusively reveal that Lizard King Jim Morrison is working at a McDonald’s in Shreveport, La.
@ Rich
Those are fair points for sure.
We do have it from no less reputable sources than Autoblog and the Financial Times, that SAIC is planning a new TF though. We just thought that these renderings looked like a good jumping off point for what the final car may show up as. Consider the grain of salt properly taken, thanks for the input!
Wasn’t this to be built in Oklahoma?
If you are going to publish news about MG, get it from a good source. This was posted today on http://www.austin-rover.co.uk
NAC MG UK Limited’s new Chairman, Mr. He Xiao Qing, 44, has today announced that production of the MG TF LE500 will commence at Longbridge at the beginning of August and that the first cars will reach NAC MG’s new Dealer Network in September.
Mr. He (pronounced Hurr), who succeeds Mr. Wang Hong Biao as Chairman, said: “I am delighted to have been appointed Chairman at such an exciting and busy time in this young company’s history (and) to be in a position to talk about a launch date for the TF LE500 following a process of planning, re-organisation, active quality improvements and parts optimisation that we recognise resulted in frustration for our stakeholders. We are now fully focused on bringing our hard work to fruition.”
Gary Hagen, NAC MG UK Limited’s Director of Sales and Marketing, added: “The open sportscar is an iconic image of British motoring and forms the basis of the MG marque’s long pedigree. The launch of the TF LE500 signals our determination to keep this class of car at the heart of the brand as we take it forward.”
The launch of the TF LE500 will be followed by full scale production of the TF and a family of “exciting new MG models that will capture the essential qualities of the MG brand and extend the range into additional sectors.” The new models are already being developed by the Designers and Engineers at SAIC Motor UK Technical Centre Limited’s (SMTC’s) facility in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire and will be built at Longbridge.
AROnline hopes to have much more information about SAIC Motor’s plans for the MG marque and for Longbridge in the near future…
