European Automakers Want Drivers to Share Emissions Responsibility

European Automakers are looking to the European Union to pass the burden of emissions reduction. Automakers want the governments to promote eco-driving – avoiding sharp accelerations, maintaining speeds, etc.

Wolfgang Hennig, eco-driving manager for Ford of Europe’s environmental strategy and communications department, told Ward’s Auto, “Reducing CO2 emissions from cars should be a shared responsibility. Technology, alone, cannot solve this question of how to reduce emissions from cars.

Tell me what want, what you really, really want.

A chip in every car to fine/tax drivers for everytime they stomp on it, or otherwise drive in an "unapproved" or "ecologically costly" manner.

They have that already-it's called the fuel gauge. You play, you pay. Just like God intended...

Great, we'll have a bunch of idiots trying to merge into 70 MPH traffic at 35 MPH to avoid sharp acceleration..just what we need. There's enough morons in Pri-i doing that right now.

More eco-crap. The Europeans could reduce carbon emissions even further, they could stop breathing. Oh, and to all the car mags out there, stop swallowing this global warming garbage and offer some counter point to it.

sean, this magazine has run several (Factually innacurate) counter-points to the global warming theory, and most other magazines are in the same boat, they are one of the last at all scientifically based non-industry run magazine groups to be vocal opponents of global warming.

They are right; we could save gas and lower emissions that way. We could also do so by staying home and watch the grass grow!

Reduce fuel consumption by 25%. Dang. They must really be pedal to the floor off every green light. There's no way I could cut my fuel consumption by 25% short of buying a more fuel efficient vehicle.
