Audi RS6 Avant Coming to Frankfurt, Not to America

audi-rs6-avant.jpg

Coming to the Frankfurt Auto Show next week, but not coming to the U.S. (as Audi mercilessly points out to open its press release) is the latest iteration of Audi’s super-wagon, the 2008 RS6 Avant.

Performance of the new Avant, like that of its forbearers, is sure to be startling. The fact that Audi begins to describe this stormer with a comparison to the all-conquering, Le Mans-winning R10 TDI should set the toes of any car fan to tapping.

The Avant is capable of reaching 62 miles-per-hour in about the time it takes to say: "580-horsepower, twin-turbo, direct injection V-10" (roughly 4.6 seconds for those of you keeping score). It will carry on to 155 mph before the better angles of the electric governor naggingly abate the Avant’s “propulsive power.

I am truly impressed here! Is this a sign of Audi to come?

Steve

Are you kidding? Wow. Amazing car, I love it!

Iain

I would bet a nice meal that Audi will bring the SEDAN version to the US, but not the AVANT...just like did with the last RS6. I am sure it will be big $$$ ($100k plus) which means it will have to be REALLY good. Oh and the dealers are going to have to raise they act to support a car like this...

Bastards. Bring the Avant. Hot wagens rule.

Rip

I've been reading that we are going to shut down Gitmo and I'm thinking that this would be a good place to send any Auto Company Executive who won't give us....“580-horsepower, twin-turbo, direct injection V-10″.

Just a thought...:-)

Don

What the hell do you even DO with a 580 hp wagon?

Steve

... I think, more appropriately, the question is... What the hell DON'T you do with a 580hp wagon? It does everything!!

Bob

I do find this confusing ... 19" steel discs? How big are the standard wheels?

The standard 19-inch steel discs have been designed for maximum load.

Optionally, in conjunction with 20-inch wheels, a ceramic brake system is available: it boasts discs with an impressive diameter of 16.5 inches at the front and 14.0 inches at the rear,

As much as I hate VW stuff, that is a gorgeous car! Still I'd like it more if it were 1000 lbs lighter and 150 less HP would be fine. There should be more wagons that look anywhere near this good.

Mena

dante,
There are enough underpowered cars in Audi's lineup (all of them except this one). This is truly a breath of fresh air from Audi.

Ducati Minor

Mena, I don't consider the RS4 underpowered. I'm with the Brit mags when they proclaim it the finest luxo-sport sedan in the world.

is it me or do the fender flares look like they came off a WRX?
