2009 Volkswagen Scirocco Images Break Loose Before Geneva

The Volkswagen embargo fortress has fully broken down just days before the start of the Geneva Motor Show, revealing what is sure to be one of the biggest stars in attendance, the 2009 Scirocco.

The near-production version of the VW coupe hearkens strongly to the IROC concept that got the ball rolling, though the drama has been toned down considerably. The front-end treatment of the car shows the most maturing over the initial concept, losing the silver-framed, gaping mouth of the IROC. More of the concept’s influence can be seen in the profile and rear of the car, which stays low to the ground and trim, while still reminding us a bit of a mid-1990’s Civic hatch around the backside.

Take a peek at the official Scirocco images from Volkswagen in our gallery, and tell us what you think of the new car in comments.

It should be coming to the US.

Stephen

Doesn't look too special to me. And not nearly as handsome as my early 90s Corrado.

JR

Nice looking.

Too bad Volkswagen quality is so terminally awful.

It's nice but I would still prefer a GTI over this.

*heh it looks like I don't have a choice*

But i'm glad they got rid of that Dying Cod grille.

"And not nearly as handsome as my early 90s Corrado."

You're joking right?

Mena

I like it. I assume this will use the all of the Golf powerplants?

Donald

I don't think it's an ugly design, but this might as well be the next Golf. Apart from powertrain options, how is this really going to differentiate itself from the Golf overseas? The design is not unique enough to make it seem like an entirely different car from the Golf.

naggs

aweful

glad its not comming

Stephen

Not joking, Minor.

Mark

The back looks OK if you want to get that wagon look, but the front end is really bad and you end up with an ugly wagon. Too bad for VW they are trying for a sporty hatchback look, cause this aint it.

Cicero

Too bad it is not coming to the States, they could rebadge it as the new GTI since it is so sporty looking

mo

ugly, if someone wants a sport hatch in europe he/she will go for the alfa brera which is way much hotter and sportier.

PeakVT

Looks like a V30 rebadge.

Old Sciroccos looked simple and light. This one doesn't. The metal/glass ratio is too big. The front and is too agressive as for Volkswagen and I don't like they've moved VW's logo from the grille to the bonnet, but maybe it's only the matter of time to get used to it.

Jonathan Fung

Id be disappointed if this became the next Golf. I don't know what specifically it is about this car that makes me dislike the design, but I just don't like it. I think it may be the chop-top look which just doesn't feel right on this car.

Jeff

I prefer the looks of the corrado to this, in all honesty. I like the idea, but I'd follow the styling cues of the corrado more closely than the scirocco. That said, I can't believe they aren't bringing this to the states.
