2008 Le Mans 24 Hours Entry List Revealed

Organizers of the 24 Hours of Le Mans have released the details of this year’s entry list, showing a field of 55 cars, with 20 LMP1 class entries, and eight reserves.

The overall winner of this year’s race will likely be one of the diesel-powered entries from manufacturers Audi and Peugeot. Both companies will field three cars, with Peugeot fiercely hoping that its 2008 908 HDi can break the lock Audi’s held on Le Mans for years. Pescarolo hopes to have good success in LMP1 as well, fielding two works cars, with British customer Rollcentre Racing running another.

The LMP2 entries for this year are highlighted by the first appearance of the Porsche RS Spyder at Le Mans, with Team Essex and Van Merksteijn Motorsport each bringing one. GT1 will again be the scene of a showdown between Aston Martin and Corvette, with both offering four cars to the fray. Interprogressbank Spartak Racing will run the sole Lamborghini in the class, and race.

Finally GT2 will bring fans the closest to real road cars, and most likely some of the best racing on the day. Porsche and Ferrari will take up their decades old rivalry as the 911 GT3-RSR’s take on a large group of F430 GT’s. Now that it’s washed its hands of Formula One, Spyker may be able to find a measure of motorsport redemption with a surprise win here.
