All sorts of nasty rumors have been circulating around the internet lately on the topic of the relationship between the rapidly changing Chrysler LLC and Chery Motors of China.
Reports of on-again, off-again plans for Chery to take a hand in production of Dodge prospects, Hornet and Demon, had our friends over at Autoblog digging for some answers.
(Click through the jump to find out if Chery and Chrysler are calling it quits.)
It seems that based on reports from the Wall Street Journal along with comments from Chrysler execs, Inside Line was reporting that Chery would no longer be teaming with the automaker to build the small Dodge vehicles.
“Absurd,” says Chrysler’s David Elshoff at its business operations communications office, in response to an email. Elshoff goes on to say that the two companies are still working together on building cars for export from China, just not for the home market. Also, Chery’s A1 platform is targeted for use in a Chrysler vehicle due for sale in Latin America by the end of 2008.
Additionally, Elshoff confirmed that the pair is working on a version of the Hornet, possible as early as 2009. Doom and gloom averted, all the carmakers said “yea!”
