Chery’s First Two-Door Compact to Come Later This Year

Though Chery’s fleet at the Beijing Auto Show may not have garnered as much praise as Geely's did, the Anhui-based carmaker is no doubt one of the toughest players in the compact cars department for the Chinese market. At the end of this year, Chery will roll out its first two-door compact into the market, the QQ5, which bowed at the Shanghai show in 2007. The oddly styled compact model will be powered by Chery’s SQR473F engine, a 1.3-liter DOHC four, which is expected to be attached to an automatic manual transmission. The powerplant can generate a maximum output of 84 horsepower, giving the QQ5 a top speed of 103.8 mph. The new compact will likely be priced around 26,800 RMB (roughly $ 3,835 USD). Aside from the new QQ, Chery will possibly launch its A3, in both sedan and hatchback form, on to the market before June.

Well, nobody can accuse Chery of copying another design here, but I don't think should be the direction "Chinese style" should be heading. It's not too horrible though, and has some interesting touches. I imagine it probably has a good deal of aerodynamic lift, but maybe not.

The Pac-Man car !... does it go wacka wacka wacka ?

Does aerodynamic lift matter on something that barely reaches 100 mph? funny looking, but I'm not sure at this point whether to call it "cute" in the sense of the old bug eye Sprite, or ugly as in Pontiac Aztec

That thing looks like it should be amphibious.

LOL!
Don't send it here...

Good Lord that's awful. There is just nothing at all right about that design.

That's disgusting. The turn signal indicator on the side is a neat idea, but it doesn't fit at all on this car

racists, the car is not really horrible. you guys just don't like the idea of a chinese car. why didn't anybody talk when we had the smart car, this is more practical, at least it has two back seats.
this is a great start for a chinese maker. i personally don't expect to sell in here, but rahter in japan and Europe.
Mena
Actually it is but what else are you going to get for $3800?
Rex
Wow! A Chinese VW Beetle. :)
Great job Guys.

Man, the Chinese have to be the best at using arbitrary sequences of numbers and letters for engine/car names. I mean, that would probably be a rather nice randomly-generated password.
Hulkster
I have to agree with Rex.
Someone shrunk the beetle!
