Chinese automaker Geely has got a striking concept prepared for the 2008 Beijing Motor Show, a GT car that looks to be a welcome surprise from the company.

The Geely GT seems to be drawing a large portion of its inspiration from Ferrari’s 612, though the familiar form has been given a darkly complex makeover in the Chinese application. Unfortunately we don’t have any information to relate yet in regards to powertrain or specifications, but we’ll certainly be keeping our ears to the ground for more details on this one.

At least it’s a bit more original than most Chinese designs. You can’t deny that the lights are a creative design. Not sure I like them, but at least they are copies of somebody else’s design.

Not sure I see much similarity to the 612, beyond the general front-engined, rear-drive, two-door layout.

Maybe it’s just the angle of the photo, but that grille really reminds me of the creature from Aliens.

The shape from the side reminds me of the Ferrari 612. Unfortunately, the details are just plain ugly. I think it reminds me of the comparison of the Datsun roadster of the the early 1960’s and the MGB. The styling cues were similar, but the MG was graceful while the Datsun 1600 and 2000 just looked awkward.

I like the looks of this car;however,it looks like the lovechild of the Batmobile(of the Tim Burton era) and the Pontiac Solstice…

How many top-secret US government briefcases fit in the trunk, though?

It is actually pretty close to being not that awful. Tone down the chrome silliness already and de clutter the front a bit, who knows it might not be that bad.

I actually like it. I don’t see much of the 612, but I see more GT-R. Maybe that’s why I like it: I think the 612 is hot. But overall, I DON’T think the design is very derivative. I look forward to pictures from the floor and more details.

Russ, isn’t the 612 ugly?

I like this Geely design.

What’s with the freakish “Tammy Fae” facia?

First thing I thought of when I saw this was Maybach Nardo with Ferrari 612 Scaglietti proportions and Lexus ES “Speeding Goldfish” headlamps…

…But I still like it

I thought Pontiac Solstice on crack when I saw the front…
