Two Down, One to Go: Ford unveils Verve Sedan Concept in China, Plans Another for Detroit

Ford Verve Sedan Concept

We've heard Ford was possibly eying China as a key market for its upcoming Verve subcompact, but this is a definite sign. The automaker unveiled today its second Verve concept - this time a four-door notchback.

If you're a fan of either the original Verve concept or the new Mondeo sedan, chances are you'll find the Verve sedan rather attractive. The front fascia is relatively unchanged from the hatchback that bowed at the Frankfurt motor show, but the rear profile - including the beltline, fender forms and tail lights, closely resemble those of the swoopy Mondeo.

The sub-compact Verve, believed to be the upcoming replacement for the aging Ford Fiesta, is currently being developed to be a 'global platform.' Although design and development work are currently underway in Europe, rumblings exist that the production car may be built in various markets, including China.

We'd also bet that Ford's seriously eying the U.S. as a potential market for their B-segment car, as a third version of the Verve concept will be unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January. For the moment, there's no word on what its design will be, but Ford claims it will be the last sneak-peek into their program.

Interesting. You sure that's a Ford?

It looks like someone took a Mazda 6 and inflated the front and back ends.

Ford needs to get this product to market in NA asap. I'm afraid the new Focus is going to sink.

Huge grill. Odd rear profile. Yuck.

Oversized, droopy, grills (Audi gets the blame for starting this silly trend) have got to go.

It's another example of the Germans (BMW's Bangel cars being the other eyesore) polluting car styling.

Amjad

A nice looking peugeot 407 look-a-like

Bob Martel

Nice car. Is it US bound?

Pleae don't mess up the Verve/Fiesta with a trunk FORD!!!!!... PLEASE!!!!

Hey!, for the people that think that Fords look like Mazdas.... Look abroad and you will see it is the other way around...... Mazdas look like Ford... Ford (Mondeo, Focus, Fiesta and the Transit Connect)has better style and better engineering (in Europe).....

Rog

Stunning...a real looker...controversial enough to be a success. Bring it stateside Ford.

Ducati Minor

Definitely a Peugeot knock-off--but a good one, I must say. I would love to see it here in the States.

If this thing had a Hyundai badge on it you people would be creaming your jeans. Get over the American hate.

Nice job, FoMoCo.

this should have been the new ford taurus.

Hey, WR, look up the definition of a "notchback".

smokefreak2003

This car is too small to be a Taurus. This is a B-Segment car competiting with; Accents, Versas, Fits, Aveos, Yarises, X-D's. This will really make the competition really step up that sub-compact game.
