This powered unicycle called the Embrio Advanced Concept, was designed by Canadian recreational vehicle company Bombardier, and is said to represent a vision of commuting fun from 2025.

With a riding position similar to that of a traditional two-wheeled motorcycle, the Embrio concept uses a system of gyroscopes and sensors to balance up to two passengers while on the move. The strange bike is also able to keep stable at low speeds, and while motionless, thanks to a pair of two small wheels that deploy when the pace drops below 12.5 mph. There are triggers on the left and right handlebars that accelerate and brake the vehicle, and riders turn by leaning to the left or right.

The Embrio is also aimed at a greener future for commuters, and is motivated by an electric motor running on hydrogen power. Take a closer look at the Embrio with our gallery below, and then tell us what you think of the bike in comments.

I ride a motorcycle and thoroughly enjoy it, but it’s hard to imagine how this rig would remain stable under hard braking or during evasive maneuvers. Are two wheels really too many?

This looks like it would be a Hoot to ride, more fun than a Segway.

up to two passengers???

I freakin’ love it. Talk about reducing an idea to its bare essentials!

I would love to try one of those things ar maybe 20Mph, but I wouldn’t use one to commute… I just can’t see it being that safe. Same with the Segway… fine at it’s speeds, but I would not want to go 60mph on one of them.

That thing definitly does not look safe. I think it’d be cool to play with in the park, but I can imagine it being extremely unnerving to go through traffic on it.

Have to give them props for the futuristic design though.

Good luck slamming the breaks on this thing.

“up to two passengers???”

The second passenger sits on the driver’s shoulders. It’s a nice comfortable place to sit as well as fun to watch going down the freeway(think clown show).
