New York Auto Show: Chevrolet Groove Concept

chevy-groove001.jpg

The Chevrolet Groove concept is a space-efficient five-door that reminds us quite a bit of the Scion xD, what with its bull nose and all. Powered by a 1.0-liter diesel, the front-drive Groove is probably the most capacious of Chevrolet's trio of concepts.

If you like it, be sure to vote for it at www.vote4chevrolet.com.

Reminds me of a crushed HHR...but it's still cool.

Not as cool as the Trax, though.

But certainly better than the Yaris-like Beat.

Austin

This is what the 2nd gen xB should have looked like.

(Maybe they stole the tail lights off a Chevy pickup?)

Why don't you have a vehicle like the Groove today? It looks perfect and the diesel should provide unbelievable mileage. I drive a suburban. One of these would allow me to keep it and use the Groove to commute in.

Aaron Watson

I like the elevated taillights and the signaled side mirrors. I too think the diesel would make it one of the best economy commuter cars. The reliability should be there too, especially over the so called SMART commuter car. It doesn't have to be a rocket, just reliable and economical. I also really like the sheet metal from GM recently ... Aura/Malibu, HHR, Sierra/Silverado, et al. What happened, attrition?

Chris

I'm 30, live in a moderately metropolitan city (Austin, TX) and commute to work so it's not a big stretch that I could be a target for this car potentially. I love the styling and the prospect of awesome mileage. If the quality was good from the get-go I and many others would scoop it up.

Sadly, it looks like it may be another lost opportunity for Chevrolet and General Motors.

All three are needed on their showrooms NOW!!!!

But, GM is playing games.

If it was in the showrooms right now, the Groove would have a sale. They would also have a Traxx sold too (my sister likes it).

But they are not. So, sometime this summer, I will probably by an XB (original design --- not the new crappy look).

I have a Metro. I have gotten almost 54mpg with my 1994 (before an accident killed it) and almost 53mpg with my 1999 that replaced it. (I'll be keeping it)

GM should bring the Geo nameplate back and put all vehicles that get more than 40 mpg or are hybrids under that class....

And allow them to be sold by any GM dealer.....

Also... build them in the US.....

Become partners with the autoworker unions..... and also avoid the stupid mistakes that is killing the US automakers....(ie....bigger is better).

Create "Goldilocks" engine choices for the current models....with smaller engines and diesels available for the models like the HHR, Cobalt....etc

In Europe, Ford has a 7-passenger van that gets 42+mpg with its 1.9L diesel.

30 years ago, Ford's Fiesta got 42mpg (EPA highway) and I got much better than that. And that was with its largest of 5 engines- the only one available in the US at the time.

Now Chevy brags about 30mpg?

Learn a lesson.... Europe did.

Do the same here.....if GM wants to survive....

Also, given its appearance, there could be a natural tie-in with popular television Battlestar Galactica.....and the Groove.

They could work with the studio/producers etc and develop a "Cylon Edition" (smile) with graphics and a think red LED rope in the front grille.
