Frankfurt: Subaru’s WRC Concept Looks Fast
Well, the good news is that Subaru showed its Impreza WRC concept in Frankfurt, and we can attest that it is the best looking new Impreza by far. The bad news is that outside of a glossy, info-starved (with the added difficulty of being written in German) press kit and a smile from the nice lady at the Subaru counter, we didn’t get a lot on the new concept.
WINDING ROAD readers will be able to tell as we were that the WRC is a tough looking, lowered, and rallied-out version of the expected Impreza STI. Presented in \classic Subaru livery with a dramatic swath of the Stars of Pleiades across both doors, chances are that the new Scooby racer will be a blown, flat-four-powered, really fast ride.
For now, we’ll enjoy the pics and long for four-wheel drift on loose bitumen.

I don't know why the wouldn't tell a member of the media details about their competition package. Life isn't fair!

Amazing what you can get for just half a million!
At least that's what WRC cars used to cost.
WRC drivers are simply the best drivers in the world. They drive in THREE dimensions, dealing with uneven roads, camber changes and surfaces with varying traction. They drive cars with suspensions that allow the wheels to travel up and down. Ground effects has turned F1 and most auto racing into various forms of go karts. The aerodynamics generate so much downforce that the spring rates have to be huge. On some cars the sidewalls deflect more than the suspension. WRC drivers drive cars with real suspensions on real roads, not go karts on billiard table smooth courses. That's what F1 used to be, before they turned it into a video game.
WRC is the second most popular form of motor racing in the world, and it isn't even shown on US television.

"...we can attest that it is the best looking new Impreza by far."
Meh. I personally liked the looks of the last generation WRC Impreza better. I guess I am just used to seeing it in sedan version, and am still having a hard time swallowing this hatchback bodytype. Personally, this one looks a bit overweight. Nevertheless, if it is for the WRC and has that blue and yellow paintjob, it must be awesome.

[...] The new über-scooby is set to debut on the first media day of the rapidly approaching Tokyo Motor Show. From this lone, dark image it’s hard to make out details of the new STI, though it is evident that the car is far more aggressively styled than the standard Impreza and WRX. What remains unclear is whether the blistered and bewinged STI will be tough enough to shed the criticism that has dogged the Impreza’s latest redesign. [...]

I wonder how close this is to the much anticipated STI. From the mule and early release pictures I've seen of the STI they look to be one in the same.
