Ferrari Quietly Unveils FXX Millechili (1000kg) Concept

WINDING ROAD was on hand at the beginning of Ferrari's 60th Anniversary weekend celebration, where we saw such dignitaries as Fiat boss Luca Cordero di Montezemolo and Ferrari CEO Jean Todt. While the company focused on a show of their technical know-how and the debut of the 60th anniversary edition of the 612 Scaglietti (details on that coming soon), we were excited to see the "little Enzo" sitting front and center.

The car has an official name (FXX Millechili) or doesn't (depending on who you talk to) and was not a drivable concept. It's made of largely cardboard and plastic (note the paper wheels), but we fell hard for it, anyway. The design concept seems to take away the worst of the Enzo (its long front and rear overhangs) while retaining the stuff we really like (it can hold a V-8 or V-12 in its current specification).

Ferrari insiders have called this the "1000 kilo" car, while the Ferrari media site refers to it in the more Italian translation of "FXX Millechili." However you call it, 1000 kg translates into a very desirable 2207 lb. Power could be rated as high as 660 horsepower from the Enzo's V-12. The company's new goal of achieving efficiency in performance is at the core of this concept's mission. Making everything lighter and stronger has always been a top priority in racing and it appears that Ferrari is getting serious about applying that to its production cars in ways we've never seen before.

This car is much smaller. Its wheelbase is 93.7 inches versus the Enzo's 104.3 inches. The distance from the top of the windshield to the tip of the nose is much shorter, too (43.3 inches versus the bigger car's 49.1 inches) giving it a much shorter front overhang. Out back, the rear overhang has been lopped off. Like we said, it's better in almost every way.

More details on the car will be unveiled over the weekend.

Editor's note: Don't expect to see this 1000kg concept showing up as a production car. Ferrari insiders specifically noted that the surface graphics of this car -- which mimic the Enzo in nearly every way -- are not written into the final plan, if there is one at all. However, the proportions are important. The short overhangs are delicious and give us hope that a 2200-lb, 660 hp Ferrari could be coming our way in the future. We like Ferrari's "efficiency" strategy here; they don't define the word by throwing a diesel or a hybrid at the car. They're doing it the right way, by making the car lighter, smaller, and more focused.

Looks like a bastard child between an Enzo and an Audi R8.

Steve K.

I was going to say the bastard child of an Enzo and a Gallardo.

Looks like something I would give my 2 year old to drive around on the sidewalk

I could care less what it looks like, but I sure do like the idea of producing a sports car that breaks from the seemingly endless escalation of weight and power, particularly one with mid-engine and rear wheel drive!

Rex

Honey! Who shrunk the Enzo?

Mena

Going with Christopher on this one. It's absolutely refreshing to see weight reduction making a comeback for sports cars. Hopefully, 10 years down the road (of course), other sports car manufacturers will follow suit.

I love the Enzo and everything about it accept the price dealers were asking for it. The 612 is another matter. The Scaglietti has to be the "stunning" roadgoing Ferrari since the 1970s 400 two-door sedan.

Finally, Ferrari is learing the lesson Colin Chapman tried to teach us all years ago. Light weight trumps just about everything else. The ideal had always been a Ferrari engine in a Lotus chassis. Looks like this direction could get close to that.

Mena

This is EXCELLENT!!!!! Good to see Ferrari going the weight reduction route instead of the more is (not) better route.

The wheels look painted on. Otherwise I like the look.

We'll see if the V12 makes it in there. I think a V8 direct-injection bi-turbo unit would send the better efficiency message. It could drive better and faster as well.

This was a fake car anyway with drawn on cardboard wheels. Propped up there just to impress the easily impressed press.

The next Enzo-style car ain't gonna' look much like this Millechili.

i think ferrari had a diffiulty to produce a new model without basing it from the enzo... you see that they alredy designed 3 enzos by just tamperring it a bit.
i think i can design a more better looking ferrari than that, in fact I done it already. Pininfarina doesn't just aware of it.

not bad car but what is happened with future ferrari supercar?,i think not this will be a body to new ferrari supercar i mean ferrari f70 and one problem the horsepower is to small i heard new supercar will have 800bhp....i wait more good news i hope!

I wonder if there is any truth to the rumour that a new Ferrari Dino is coming, and whether or not this will be part of the product planning?

I like the idea of light weight. I wonder how crash worthy it will be though? Maybe we need to accept that leight weight will not crash as well? I dont know, but I do like what I see here.

Well done Ferrari!
