Embargone: Lincoln Officially Reveals MKR Concept Ahead Of Detroit

lincoln-mkr002-600.jpg

Remember our rant on the double-standard automakers have for embargoes applied to print and Web-based publications? A lot of the firestorm over the issue in the last 10 days centered on the Lincoln MKR Concept that was prematurely featured on the cover of February’s Car and Driver, breaking Ford’s embargo date.

Well, Dearborn has realized that the jig is well-and-truly up on the MKR, and has spewed forth more information on the not-unhandsome coupe, which incorporates an E-85 powered twin-turbo V-6 dubbed “TwinForce.

If they produce cars from Lincoln with that grille, I would expect Foose Design to do a landslide business fixing Ford's styling faux pas.

Russ has a point. Fortunately, this concept is so far and away a concept that it's unlikely we'll see anything close to it for a production vehicle.

Wonder what the trunk looks like?

This should have been the Mark X. Build it. This maybe the boldest thing that Ford has going for it, outside of Mazda. No, this car may not become a sales leader, but could set a new design direction for both Lincolin and Ford.... badly needed, as evidenced by the woefully-formulaic "bling" redesign of the Navigator. Unlike the Navigator, I think this grille (or future variations of it) will grow on you.

BTW It is nice to see a "real" concept again, with all the "design exercises" and pre-production vehicles we've seen in the past year. There is something boring about cars without steering wheels, and pre-prod's are hardly newsworthy. It is exciting to anticipate tangible aspects of of this concept finding their way into production vehicles. It is something akin to rooting for your favorite team - which design will take the market?

Steve

Will Ford Motor Company ever build a car that will compete? This is boring. Only the Mustang, which relied on previous designs, stirs up any kind of desire. DCX takes chances, comes up with good designs and has the guts to build it. FoMoCo seems to have designers on qualudes. Where is the excitement? Oops, that's a Pontiac tag line, which brings up GM designs. They have some REALLY nice ideas, but like Ford, not enough guts to build them, with the exception of the Cadillac car line, at least Gm's current car line is some what interesting. Wake up Ford.....exciting designs and powerful motors sell, but you need both. Reasonable pricing would be good too.

Michael

If i was Lincoln , id build it .Tone down the grille . At least this car is interesting comapred to the rest of the boring lineup.

Ford Says “Twin Forceâ€? is Too Much Name for the Lincoln

[...] got the motoring press all hot and bothered when they debuted the sexy Lincoln MKR at last year’s Detroit Auto Show, in part because of the hot “Twin Force

Yep, I can see it now. The stylists are sitting around, and say we need to stretch the grille design, it's not tall enough. They drag the handle in the design software, and look at the result. Somebody says "Doesn't that look like the Oldsmobile emblem?" The boss answers "Olds is dead, do it!"
