‘08 NAIAS: Up Close and Personal with Hummer’s HX Concept
We're not sure if you have a favorite look for the Hummer HX concept - either with or without tops - but if you do, and you plan on heading to the Detroit auto show to see it in the flesh, take note. The folks manning the GM stand will take their socket heads to the HX on a regular basis, changing it between hard- and open-top configurations.
Although we didn't think the slant-back top and door panels made the HX look any more or less of a Hummer, the truck looks even more butch without them. We'd also argue that stripping the doors may allow for something close to good peripheral vision, because those minuscule window panes sure don't let much light in.
Designers claim that the concept is somewhere around 90-95% production-intent, but we're expecting - as we saw between the concept and production H2 and H3 - a drastic reduction in shiny or "hardcore" off-road equipment before it ever leaves a plant. We can only wait and see - but do you have any interest in the baby Hummer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Add a diesel engine option and I'd buy this Hummer like it was from a high priced hooker...

Why hasn't Hummer made something to compete with a Wrangler before? I'd take the wicked looking HX with no doors or roof ahead of a Jeep any day. If they build it - I'll buy it.

Can you say horrible front visibility? It's like they took a Wrangler and raised the hood a foot.

Holy smoke... talk about major headache after each bump... that roofline must be an inch over heads.

what about rear visibility? with no side mirrors and central one looking at the spare tire. very high rear end you cant see even an 18 wheeler behind.

I own a H3 manual shift and think for europe they should consider same. My spouse is already in love with the H3, but automatic is a no no for her and many others in europe.Give the HX a smaller engine also.
By the way, I was in portugal to watch the start of the Dakar, which did not take place and saw the two rearwheel drive H3 cars. The guys were really p....off and told me I could have one for a million dollars development costs. The only two things familiar were the two mirrors and the H3 sign on the side.

I would definately buy another Hummer if they would make the HX. My H2 was nice but not serious offroad. Someone should urge GM to get the HX into production pronto, but..............IT NEEDS TO BE "REAL" OFFROAD! Not underpowered, not under braked, not under suspensioned, etc.. I hunt and I offroad and I would sell my tricked jeep if the HX was as good as it looks.
