‘08 NAIAS: Buick’s Chinese Riveria Makes U.S. Debut

Buick Riviera Concept

Yeah, we know the sultry Riviera concept made its debut in its homeland of China, but this is one of its first showings here in the United States, and certainly the first in General Motors’ official home town of Detroit.

The massive gull-wing doors and the neon highlighting are a little too concept-ish, but the overall look is clean, elegant, and - quite frankly - unlike almost any other Buick in production.

Rumor has it the next generation LaCrosse sedan will use many cues from this concept; if that’s the case, it may prove to be a welcome change. Let us know what you think of the Riviera’s styling, and what cues you’d like to see included or excluded from future Buicks.

I liked it last year, and I like it now. The headlight treatment has since been stolen by Infiniti (or maybe buick stole it?), but overall the car looks great and it would certainly give people a reason to step into a Buick showroom for once.

If building the Caddy CTC allows them to build this I’m all for it. Great Design!

Buick Definitely needs this in there showrooms.

We might see styling cues on the next LaCrosse? So taking a spicey coupe and molding it into a granny sedan is going to impress Americans?

I’m skeptical.

This is a great looking car… I really hope it sees production. I see Buick as being a very good Lexus/Acura alternative, and this would give plenty of people a reason to switch.

This design is awesome. I hope it has a buick ride as we who could afford an automobile like this are not necessaily interested in a stif ride.

This car is gorgeous! If the LaCrosse (please be Regal or Invicta) looks like this, it will be a hit. Unfortunately the spy shots (at least the areas that show from under the camo) look like the shared cues, if any, have been productionized too much. The front fascia, rocker panel and rear facia of the 2010 LaCrosse mule in the spy photos are much chunkier. Why is it so easy for GM to concept perfection and then settle for second best when they go to production. GM needs to let Buick produce this vehicle, as is. It would truly be the most striking car in their portfolio and would send Buick into the level they say they are taking the brand.

[…] future hybrid, the Volt - wasn’t surprising. Other vehicles, like the Shanghai-designed Buick Riviera, Hummer HX, and Pontiac’s thunder from down under, the G8, received quite a bit of attention. […]
