Die-cast model makers Minichamps appear to be working on some kind of infant sports car project, as these unbearably cute images have surfaced with the toymaker’s logo affixed. Sure to be a hit with the tween and girlfriend set, (you remember the Muppet Babies phenomenon right?) we’re going to speculate that the new toy cars have bubble-like wheels, and over-sized headlights that look a lot like puppy dog eyes. Enjoy the cute logo gallery below.

Lamborghini announced this winter that it would be creating a separate North American sales division, and told the media today that the division will make its headquarters in sunny Los Angeles, California.

The Italian exotic maker will be setting up shop in the L.A. suburb of Santa Monica, right in the heart of one of Lambo’s most profitable markets. North America represented 41 percent of all sales for the company in 2007 and roughly one-third of those sales were made in the state of California. The proximity to such an important part of its customer base is one of the primary reasons Lamborghini chose So Cal for its HQ over a spot on the East Coast.

Said Lamborghini CEO Martin Winkelmann, “California is where the future trends are. It’s where our PR agency is. It’s where many of our buyers are.”

Light weight, buttoned-up, and faster than hell, the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera is now on its way to being a very tasty footnote in the history of the storied automaker. Lamborghini has finished production on the stripped down super car, recently sending the very last batch of Superleggeras to dealers.

Just 172 examples of the Gallardo specials were made, with the bulk ordered in orange (46 examples) or yellow (45). Ten special customers took delivery of white Superleggeras, ensuring days of detail cleaning after manly jobs like driving the albino bulls through the hills after a rain. Time well spent.

Bid farewell to the Gallardo Superleggera with a browse through the gallery below.

Right here in Gotham, Lamborghini has cleared up rumors we were harboring regarding the showing later this evening of the LP640 Lamborghini used by Bruce Wayne in the latest Batman sequel The Dark Knight.

Long story short, we are not going to see any Lambo Batmobile today. Not even the Mattel model version that was outed two days ago on MTV.

While it’s becoming more and more in vogue for automakers to debut their newest vehicles in surprising places, movies, video games, etc., we especially like the idea of releasing a car as a toy before the grownup size item.

That’s exactly what Lamborghini is doing with its sure to be brilliant new Batmobile. The Dark Knight’s motorized steed is bound to wow movie goers when the new movie (featuring the late Heath Ledger as the Joker) hits theaters, but we get a bit of a sneak peek in this video.

Rumor has it that the full-sized car will be making a guest appearance at the Lamborghini gala for the opening night of the New York Auto Show as well. We’ll be prowling Gotham for more info.

Lamborghini pulled the wraps off its Gallardo LP560-4 supercar here in Geneva. The 560 ups horsepower to 560 (big surprise, right?) and sheds weight to achieve a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.7 seconds. This seems like typical stuff for Lamborghini, but those improvements also post an 18 percent reduction in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. Top speed is a healthy 201 mph and the Gallardo now sports some LEDs for daytime running lights. The improvements aren’t game-changing, but there’s no doubt Lamborghini will sell every copy it decides to produce.

eBay Auction of the Day: 1989 Lamborghini LM002

Big, bluff, with a sense of style that’s flamboyant even for a Lamborghini, the LM002 (or “Rambo Lambo” in popular parlance) was destined to be an icon in its own time. Designed with the idea of eventually being used as a military vehicle, but ultimately becoming yet another toy for the idle rich, the LM002 provided a combination of speed and ability that was unheard of in its day.

Though the LM002 may be the spiritual ancestor of vehicles like Porsche’s Cayenne, and the Range Rover Sport, it lacks the polish of those more modern vehicles. It was in many ways, quite tacky, featuring bold graphics and a rather sleazy interior that hasn’t aged well. The Lamborghini did have considerable off-road prowess though, as well as being able to boast that it shared a V-12 powerplant with the legendary Countach.

The 1989 example for sale on eBay Motors, seems to be in fantastic condition, with only 24,000 miles in nearly twenty-years, it’s clear that it’s been babied for most of its life. It’ll take a bold bidder to cough up the better part of one hundred grand though.

Lamborghini Gallardo

There’s little to fault with Lamborghini’s Gallardo (pictured), but that’s not stopping the super car maker from packing it with more power. According to Inside Line, a high-output variant, reportedly named LP550, will make its debut at March’s Geneva Motor Show.

We hear the current 5.0-liter V-10 will be replaced by a 5.2-liter ten-cylinder, fitted with Audi’s FSI direct-injection technology. Total output of the new mill will reportedly be 550 horsepower (hence the nomenclature) and 390 lb-ft of torque. That’s a 30 hp and 15 lb-ft boost over the 5.0-liter.

The 2008 North American International Auto Show is full of new cars, some of which can only be afforded by people with extra large wallets. Automakers like Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, and Ferrari ensure that their top-dollar automobiles are displayed under only the best of lighting and in the plushest surroundings. In many cases, special permission has to be granted in order for journalists to get up close and personal with these top-shelf vehicles.

Lamborghini to Create U.S. Sales Arm

lamborghini.jpgLamborghini has revealed that it will set up an American sales arm, the first such in the U.S. for an Italian exotic manufacturer.

Lamborghini has recognized the need to have a tighter relationship with its important U.S. dealerships, as currently about 40 percent of the automaker’s sales come from the U.S. market. American sales have grown in the last decade for Lambo, rising from 100 units in 2001 to 900 last year, in that same time period dealerships have grown in number from 14 to 30.

No location has been specified yet for the new Automobili Lamborghini America LLC, though it’s likely to end up on one of the coasts, and be staffed by around 10 people. Former Lamborghini sales manager for the western U.S., Pietro Frigerio will head the new sales division.

‘08 NAIAS: Ad Personam Paints Lamborghinis in Any Color, So Long As You Pay

Lamborghini LP640 Ad Personam

No, we weren’t wowed with an example of the Reventón, but as usual, the three cars Lamborghini brought to the Detroit show had supercar freaks drooling - in spite of their colors. The matching Murciélago LP640s and the stealthy Gallardo Spyder are examples of Lambo’s Ad Personam program - which, if you haven’t guessed it already - is Lamborghini’s way of offering vehicular personalization to their elite customer base.

Arguably, the Gallardo looks best - it’s coated in a matte brown paint, which contrasts nicely with a different hue of the color in the interior. Even from a few feet away, that brown paint looks as if it’s black, which conjures up images of wedge-shaped military aircraft and a wedge-shaped beast called the Reventón (Lamborghini admits the hue was inspired by the car).

Jon Olsson’s Ski Gallardo

At first, we thought this was yet another way for Lamborghini to incorporate military cues into its cars, although the ski-box did make us wonder if it was a prototype for a revival of the “Rambo Lambo.” We’ve come to find out it’s neither, but the personal - and decidedly awesome - transportation of one Jon Olsson, a Swedish professional skier hailing from Monaco.
