Nissan released a statement today regarding the company’s financial position for 2007, as well as outlining a corporate plan for the next five years. In between reporting on the company’s great success in Europe last year (sales up 17.9 percent) and bold declarations for its future products (a leading zero-emissions vehicle by 2012), the release managed to sneak in some broad hints about vehicles we can expect in the coming year.
While some new products like the not-for-North America Qashqai+2, the new Z, and the Cube were already on our radar, Nissan was nice enough to confirm a few rumored vehicles as well. The Infiniti G37 Convertible is said to be a go, though it’s unclear if it’s destined to be a retractable hard top or something more conventional. More intriguing still is the “mini SUV” item, which may be the recently reported “1-series fighter” we’ve been hearing about. Check out the full Nissan press release below the jump and tell us what you think of the five-year plan, in comments.

Exciting new reports from Infiniti insiders have that company planning a small vehicle to rival the likes of Audi’s A3 and BMW’s 1-series. Infiniti claims that the new small model will be different from anything else in the segment however, opening up a wide range of possible configurations.
Some speculation has the Nissan brand contemplating a new small crossover type car, which would slot in under the EX35 (above), though a convertible coupe is also on the table. Obviously it’s going to take a bit more information before we can nail down just exactly what the new car will look like, but we are told that it will be launching sometime in 2010.
(A pint-sized version of this might not be such a bad thing, check out the FX35 below.)

They called it the Bionic Cheetah. When Infiniti’s radical FX45 debuted in 2003, it was a dead ringer for the like-named show car from a year earlier, which was begotten from a 2001 show car also called the FX45.

One is already in garages, the other is ready to be garaged. Neither has a direct competitor, but they come closest to one another. Tough choice.

Earlier this week Infiniti dropped the wraps on its 2009 FX model at the Geneva Motor Show – sorry, we couldn’t get to everything in two days.
The second-generation Infiniti FX crossover features an all-new 390-horsepower, 5.0-liter 32-valve DOHC V-8 (a V-6 will be available, but Infiniti didn’t provide the details, yet). The crossover also features a seven-speed automatic with Adaptive Shift Control and an available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.
Infiniti is also offering a sport package for the 2009 FX. It includes Continuous Damping Control, Rear-Active Steer, and 21-inch alloys.
The interior features all of the luxury perks you’d expect from Infiniti, including sport seating, nav system, and an 11-speaker Bose audio system.

Motor Trend has learned that Nissan is studying the possibility of a high-performance four-door Infiniti sedan based on the GT-R.
Nissan would have to stretch the GT-R’s platform to accommodate four doors, but would have plenty of room for the 480-horsepower twin-turbo 3.8-liter VR38 V-6 engine. Although, it could share a lot from the GT-R platform, Motor Trend says expensive revisions would, likely, make the variant cost $3,000 to $5,000 more than the GT-R’s $69,000 base price.

When speculation first began a few years back on the GT-R’s arrival in the United States, many thought the extravagance and cost of Nissan’s super Skyline would force it into Infiniti’s lineup. To the dismay of Infiniti dealers, that didn’t happen, but some Nissan executives have fueled rumors that an Infiniti variant may be on its way.

Certainly in the right place at the right time, a camera-wielding reader of Autoweek.nl has captured what appears to be an almost completely uncovered copy of the new Infiniti FX55.
The images show a vehicle that has stayed very true to the swooping, low lines of the original, while also keeping the wheels at the corners stance. The overall silhouette may be unfussed with, but Infiniti has seemingly amped up the aggressiveness of the crossover, adding a blade-like front bumper, and a mean set of multi-element headlights.
The new FX is rumored to be heading to the Geneva Motor Show in March for its official debut, so stay tuned for more information as we hear it. Until then, tell us how you feel about the styling of the spied Infiniti, in comments.

While the hybrid nation is still growing by leaps and bounds, not all drivers are taken with the Toyota-style hybrid that does very well about town, but behaves much like a regular car on the highway.

Any economist can explain hyper-segmentation of mature sectors of capitalist economies. It is and has been happening before your eyes in the automotive world for decades; products proliferate to fill every imaginable gap, real or perceived. Such thinking has led to any number of successes and failures; consider Ford’s iconic 1932 V-8, Chevrolet’s original 1953 Corvette, Chrysler’s 1984 minivan, Pontiac’s Aztek crossover, and Mercedes-Benz’s still uncategorized R-class. Some make you go “Ah-ha!” while others elicit a bemused “Huh?”

More crossovers, a sports car and a high-end car are on the top of Infinit’s list for expanding the current model line according to an Automotive News report. Carlos Tavares, Nissan Motor Corporation’s executive vice president for product planning, hinted at expansion efforts during an interview with Automotive News at the Frankfurt auto show.
Expanding the reach of the Infiniti brand is key to increasing global sales numbers. To this end, the brand will appear in Western Europe next fall. The brand already has a presence in South Korea, China, and Russia, but the goal is to reach 90 percent, or more, of the luxury market around the world in 2010.
The brand’s offerings will expand by 50 percent in the same timeframe. Currently, Infiniti has six models, including the new EX35 which is scheduled to go on sale in December.

Infiniti is burnishing its already competent M sedans for 2008 as part of a rollout at this weekend’s Pebble Beach festivities.
The big news for ’08 is the addition of the M45x, which will pair Infiniti’s all-wheel drive system with V-8 power for the first time in a sedan. Other major updates include subtly reworked front and rear ends, including a new grille, trunk lid, and taillamps, along with different wheel designs in both 18-inch and 19-inch sizes.
Interior changes include new gauge cluster lighting, a reworked center console, a new navigation system that includes a 9.3 gig “Music Box” and XM NavTraffic capability, along with new trim bits in wood and aluminum, and available Lane Departure Prevention system.
