Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster / Peter Dawson
The photographer’s style should always complement the car’s styling; and for your Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Audi R8’s, using Peter Dawson is a no-brainer.
It was a hot day in Orange County and Will Calcutt showed up at this shoot wearing Cowboy boots. He seems to have gotten around quite well, despite this; he turned in over 700 beautiful images which covered every inch of the S7 and Saleen’s facility. What you see is part of the S7’s complex paint process.
Our new issue is live and available for reading, dear readers. As we’ve mentioned before on this news site with another sketch, one of our favorite stories from this month’s issue is our feature and drive of the Chaparral 2E. As many of you have already read, GM Design Director Ed Welburn is a huge fan of the 1960s race cars from Texas and played a big part in our story. He mentioned that young members of his staff were passionate about Chaparral, too, and can be found sketching “what if” Chaparrals on envelopes and napkins all the time. Weeks later, Ed sent over three sketches from his design team; one of those is featured in our magazine, one was posted weeks ago on our site, and a third is here, above.

In case you don’t keep an eye on your WINDING ROAD Automatic, or the main page of our site, our new issue is live and ready for viewing. We’ll post other previews of this month’s issue on the news site over the next few days, but here’s something that you’ll find interesting: a walkaround with the 2007 Chaparral 2E, with company co-owner Jim Musser. Our James Morse produced three videos in conjuction with the story. Here’s one of them (above).
In doing some research for our upcoming Chaparral 2E story for the next issue of Winding Road (sign up today if you’re not yet a subscriber–it’s free, as always), I’ve been reading about special Corvettes and prototypes built by GM in the 1960s. One car in particular was a favorite of Jim Musser, now co-owner of Chaparral Cars LLC and the focus of our upcoming feature. That car was called the Corvette Grand Sport IIb, which was one of the first cars with an aluminum monocoque.
