Thirteen Years of Loose Change Equals One New Truck

Most buyers are eager to sign off on a multi-year loan for a shiny new vehicle, but Paul Brant wasn’t raised that way. He recently bought his second pickup truck with only the loose change he had collected for the last thirteen years.

Why thirteen years? That’s how long it’s been since he bought his last new truck with pocket change. Brant’s father always paid cash and Paul figures his preference for paying cash, er, change for his vehicles comes from his father.

The cost of the 2008 Dodge Ram was somewhere around $35,000, but Brant had an employee discount and only needed to fork over $26,670. A police escort followed him to the dealership to be sure nothing happened to the thousands of dollars in coins. The dealership was forced to send for an armored car to collect the change. No banks wanted to deal with so many coins.
