Still Want That Reventón? Lamborghini Prepares Stripped RWD Murcielago for 2008

According to an Autocar report, Lamborghini is looking to give the Murcielago one last shot of adrenaline before it gets redesigned.
The new model will be called SV and tip the scales much lighter than the regular Murcielago. Expect weight savings of as much as 130 kilograms, 40 kilograms from dropping the front driveshaft and differential alone. That's right, this Murcielago will be driven by the rear wheels only. Weight savings will come from everywhere, even by replacing aluminum brackets with magnesium.
Power is expected to swell to 680 horsepower, with torque of 516 pound-feet. Shift times could be cut in half and this may be the last application of the 6.5-liter V-12 in a Lamborghini. Rumors indicate this car could be used for racing homologation.

My God...it's full of horsepower...or bullpower, maybe.

I thought the Reventón was an expensive letdown. With all the hype Lambo put out about the car "borrowing" from stealth aircraft designs, the final result looked like what it really was--a Murcielago with some plastic surgery.
But a stripped-down Lambo? I'm not holding my breath for this thing to be light, but I applaud the effort. I was watching the Murcielago review on Top Gear. The speed on that thing is criminal.

why is it the last application of that engine? it is a great engine and gives enormous power.

Hah. Top Gear is awesome. Clarkson would wet himself if he got to play with a RWD Murcie SV.

The engine is near the end of its development. I may be mistaken, but I believe this is developed from the original 3.5 litre designed over 40 years ago. They had trouble going to 5 litres for a while, so I don't know how they've gotten where it is now. Also, emissions standards are beyond what anyone could have envisioned when this engine was created.
I don't like how the damn noise laws have blunted the beautiful music this engine makes in the Murcielago anyway. The Diablo sounded much better because it could. If those millions of Harleys can ride around shaking windows in the dubious interest of 'safety' then I don't see why a rare car (that actually sounds good - amazing, even) can't be allowed a little leeway. I'm sure the Murcielago sounds glorious to the driver, but I can't even hear them driving next to them on the highway while the Diablo (or earlier Lamborghinis) could be heard with the radio on (though the radio would soon be turned off).

We will take a look, if we will create a Motorsport-Version off it.
