Hyundai has just added a big carrot to its used vehicles in the form of a 10-year/100,000 mile guarantee. The program, dubbed the Hyundai Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty covers select vehicles that are up to five model years old and have covered fewer than 60,000 miles.

In order to qualify for the coverage, vehicles must pass a 150-point inspection process. All covered vehicles gain warranty coverage similar to that of new Hyundais, including roadside assistance, rental and towing coverage, and the aforementioned 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain guarantee.

About time. They're like the last company on earth to offer something like this as a little extra for their used cars.

ryan

yeah, but typically they're going to have warranty left on their preowned anyway, especially if it's within their 5 year/60k original warranty. so, it's more of a marketing pull than anything else, really.

bil

Wow those crazy Koreans have done it again. They are aiming for Lexus and blowing right past all the others. It took Toyota 20 years. Those crazy Koreans are smart, ambitious and well funded. Can they be stopped?

The Stig

You're right Ryan, they have some left. But their standard 10/100k powertrain that comes with the new cars drops to 5/60k for second owners. This helps them fall more in line with (actually better now) than say Toyota, Honda, everyone else etc.

ryan

oh i know about the warranty dropping stig (i sell kia's).

but now i reread the press release, and, wow. special financing on par with new cars, diagnostic coverage, rental car coverage, a can of soup, a kitchen sink. that's a pretty remarkable thing.

hopefully kia gets it too.

I think Hyundai's previous ambivalence was because the long-term reliability of its products was uncertain. Since the start of this decade, Hyundai has distinguished itself from being a Korean company with a name similar to Honda's to a builder of fine family vehicles.

Don

I'm still not convinced these things are as well built as, say, Hondas.

For one, I'll say my wife's 04 Sonata has been absolutely flawless. After 65k miles literally the only reason we've had to take it in outside of normal maintenance was because a headlight burned out. It has very few creaks and rattles even after banging around Michigan's horribel highways. My best friends Accord and my parents Camry have both had more problems - at half the mileage. Not to mention the creaks and rattles I hear out of there cars. I think Hyundai has come a remarkable way. They are not enthusiast cars, but I think they are built quite well for everyday transportation. What more can you ask for?

Ath.

Whatever... Its a Hyundai. No matter what its a korean money maker, no soul in the cars just a blunt design, fuctional, and a good price tags. BURN!!!
