F1 Fun With Lots Less Money

45705_2.jpg

Everyone knows that Formula 1 is only for the super-rich, but now the regular rich people in the world have a shot at experiencing the thrills of F1-style motoring. British company PF1 is retrofitting old F1 rides for consumer duty on private tracks.

The concept is fairly logical. Why buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini for a few hundred grand when you can own an old F1 racer for €300,000 plus a €2500 membership to Club PF1? Well, the cost of maintenance will probably make the Italian supercar of your dreams look like a bargain, but nobody else on your block will have a late-model F1 car tucked away in the garage. These cars are only for use on a track, of course.

Is this a worthwhile business case, or are these entrepreneurs out of their league? Let us know in comments.

Nobody's going to insure these cars.

These are amateur drivers, so it won't be long until they hit something, which will probably cost much more than they paid for the car to fix.

Yeah. You think the maintenance bill on a Ferrari or Lambo is expensive....... I have a feeling the outlay for that toy will get old real quick.

potential customers would probably want to be able to drive it on public roads, to go to the grocery or for coffee or out to dinner, or to the track.. they should therefore add headlights and it might sell.

Lemme tell ya. I'd be more than happy if I had billions to buy one of these guys, and take driving schools for the rest of my life to be able to drive it at 5/10ths... The cool-factor is just through the roof. Untouchable cool.

There will be so many people throwing money at them that they'll never get enough cars to meet demand...Who doesn't wish they could rip up a track in an F1 car?! If you have the cash, why the hell not?! This is the time we're in, in any case...The Veyron exsists!!

Does anybody know about any place where I can undergo a Formula 1 Course.
I have been looking around the web, but have not found anything concrete.
I did come across this raffle ticket at http://www.dreamandwin.com , where they have a prize of 5 day Formula 1 course in France.
Could not stop myself from buying some tickets to try my luck.
If anybody of you know about anything about Formula 1 course please do let me know.
Thanks in advance.

I think the formula 1 cars of the last few years are just too complex to make them more than furniture. For a going business as a formula experience, they need to find something less high tech. Something more like an obsolete A1 gp car or and obsolete Champ car or IRL car. Perhaps even a new car based on a current formula race car with a less expensive engine. Probably most of the potential customers would get way over their heads quickly in a formula Ford, let alone a real formula 1 car.
