Chinese auto manufacturer Chery displayed its A6 Coupe Concept, the company’s first coupe model, at last year’s Shanghai Auto Show. Now the new model has finished its testing and is about to go into production.

The Chery A6 coupe will likely go on sale to the public in the second half of 2008, after the launch of its sibling the A6 sedan. This move indicates that, aside from its rapid-growing compact car business, the Anhui province-based carmaker also targets China’s luxury market.

The front-wheel drive A6 coupe is built on Chery’s B2 platform with a wheelbase of 106.3 inches and three engine options available: a 3.0-liter V-6, a 2.4-liter V-6, and a 2.0-liter turbo four. It will also come with four- or six-speed transmission options.

Zhang Lin, the director of Chery International Business Dept., recently said that the export sales of Chery Auto in 2007 have doubled compared with those of 2006, finishing top among all the Chinese auto manufacturers. The company hopes that its export volume can account for half of its total sales by 2012.

Uh, doesn’t Audi (VW…or is it Porsche?) own the rights to the “A6″?

Just as Porsche wanted to name it’s new 356 successor 901, they couldn’t because Peugeot owned it; they then changed it 911, and the rest is history.

I guess the picture isn’t an image of the production model, because it doesn’t seem to have a caliper on the front disc.

You can’t see the tennis shoe being applied to the back of the rotor?

Bumblebee - the caliper is going to be an optional feature. That’s how they keep the price down.

Well, the Audi A6 is a VERY popular car among the wealthy Chinese in many cities there. Virtually every executive there in Beijing is in a black Audi of some sort. And now, it looks like there will be twice as many A6s on the roads…unless of course, VW does something about it.

And yeah. Front brakes are overrated anyway.
