2007 L.A. Show: Live Shots of Lincoln’s MKS Sedan

dsc_8099.JPG

Here's a boatload of photos from Lincoln's reveal of the 2009 MKS sedan. Does the car look any better in the dim lighting of an auto show? Let us know in comments.

Still not sure what this MKS is all about? Read our earlier post for more details.

NO. It looks as bland, unexciting, and unimaginative as ever. I still can't believe this is how Ford is planning on rescuing themselves. It's almost like they're actively trying to kill Lincoln.

looks like they stole the headlights from an Acura TL. taillights are different, but not particularly attractive, imo. talk about a huge departure from the very traditional taillights on the MKZ. clean, unoffensive profile. overall, not a bad looking car. not terribly interesting, but i could see a lot of people liking (or not being put off) by this.

Other than its core base of aging buyers, Lincoln needs to attract new and younger buyers from import brands. Lincoln needs an injection of hip-hop cool like Chrysler got with the 300C and GM got with the Escalade and CTS in order to move more cars.

I know the MKS is not the most interesting design, but it's better than past designs and actually looks like it was designed within the last decade. It's still a full size $40,000 four-door sedan targeted towards an older demographic of buyers, and is styled conservatively as such. The entry-level MKZ (which DOES look bland, unexciting, and unimaginative) is where the real battle needs to be won for younger buyers.

This looks like a sharper, more-evolved Continental, it has styling cues everywhere from the front to rear and interior. The side profile looks like a Lexus ES which is helpful for Lincoln, but unoriginal of course.

@The Stig -- you must have been living under a rock for the past 15 years if you honestly think this is "unimaginative as ever". Have you forgot about the 88-94 Continentals? Those are practically Ford Tempos with Lincoln badges. This new MKS has come forward in leaps and bounds since then.

The Stig

^ Yeah you know what? It is leaps and bounds from that. But it's STILL NOT COMPETITIVE, even with its capless gas tank. I've driven their MKZ/Zephyer thing too. I'm the target market that they want to attract - a thirty-something professional with a growing family, and at the point in my life and career that it's time to start looking at a sport/luxury ride. That thing sucked. And then this comes along - larger, with the same powerplant, and a new front and back slapped on a Taurus. Whoopee.

Now the new CTS on the other hand - that could cause me to reconsider "American Luxury". Stylish, performs well (according to reviews), all the right options - we'll see after a test drive.......

Stig, u might not want to go for that CTS, it's too small for a growing family..... I know, I got in one it the Alabama Auto Show this past weekend.

Zzzzzzz.....

The first 3/4 of it ain't bad. But why does the rear end look like it was designed for the Chinese market? Lincoln may have trumped Honda Accord's upside-down backward taillight fiasco with this one.

Ford needs to produce those Interceptor / MkR concepts. I saw the Interceptor concept and even though it was heavily 'concepted-out' I could see how even a regular production version could look hot comming out of the factory.

First I'm always amazed that people who read car magazines and are supposed to be auto enthusiasts only comment on a car's looks. I'd drive an ugly car that performed over a stylish poser. That being said Ford's and Lincoln's problems are more than sheet metal deep. Every Ford product is 50 to 100 HP down from the competition and Ford refuses to develop their products after introduction. At least the American auto industry still has Cadillac who appears to be trying to answer the call of foreign competition.

I rcently sent this letter to the powers that be at Lincoln-
I am a sixty year old, 20 plus year Lincoln customer. (2 MK VIIs, 3 MK VIIIs, and I am currently driving my fourth LS-V8). By way of background, I hold degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Architecture. I have held SCCA and IMSA competition licenses (no longer active). I am a principle in an xxxxxxxxx sales agency engaged in engineering sales. Your product planners have apparently decided that I no longer fit your desired customer profile. That is the only conclusion I can reach, having seen the specs (and a brochure) for the upcoming MK S. You can not seriously believe that a driver who has appreciated the balance and vehicle dynamics of the LS will find the front-drive dynamics (even with AWD) of the MK S at all appealing. (Not to mention the anemic Duratec derived V6) Oh, you might draw those die-hard Continental owners still alive who have held on to their last Continental until now, but I would venture a guess that there are precious few others who will find this car (the MK S) a suitable American alternative to the European and Japanese sport sedans. My current lease goes until mid-March, and I was prepared to extend it until the MK S was available. Having seen what’s coming, that’s no longer the case. While I value my long term relationship with the good people at xxxxxxxxx, New York (an excellent dealership), your product planners have forced me to look elsewhere. With product decisions such as this, I’m afraid that Lincoln will end up alongside Packard, DeSoto, Oldsmobile, Hudson, Studebaker and the other deceased names from the recent history of the American automobile industry. What a shame!
