Moments before the crash, Jerry Seinfeld said, “What’s this button do?”
I had one of these in my 1960 Mini. When at the local drive-in for shakes & burgers (complete with girls in short shorts on roller skates to serve them), it was great fun to open the windows and play the latest Top Forty hit as loud as possible and see all nearby drivers tune their radios like crazy to find the same tune… which, of course, they could never find. The 45-rpm player was a fine girl pleaser, I found, and so was the Mini. The only problem with the player was the strong pressure required to keep the stylus from skipping on rough roads. Due to that stylus pressure, my 45-rpm records turned from glossy black to pale gray in no time at all and sound quality quickly diminished. Car radios were AM only in those days, by the way.
Those were carefree days indeed, but that’s another story.
See….you put the disc in the AutoATM, press the button and the money comes out here…amazing!
