The Wait Continues for Audi’s V-10 Powered R8

r8-wr-reservedhl.jpg

Though WINDING ROAD readers already know of Audi’s plans for a V-10 powered version of the smoking R8, the rumors have always involved the same V-10 found in the Lamborghini Gallardo and Audi S6. Not anymore.

Sources say that the R8’s V-10 will indeed be an all-new engine. The powerplant is said to displace 5.2-liters and be capable of revving to 8250 rpm while producing somewhere around 520 horsepower. All those numbers eclipse what BMW’s similarly sized, and quite accomplished, V-10 is capable of.

The news isn’t all roses and ponies from Audi though, the company has pushed back the release date for the new R8, thanks in large part to higher than expected demand for the current car. Look for the V-10 powered car to show up some time around the end of 2008.

The car should've been V10 powered (with 500+ hp) from the get go.

I do agree with Mena. Such an incredible-looking body shape must have a the most powerful powerplant available. R10 maybe?

This isn't news. The S6 and S8 V10s are 5.2 liters, and always have been. They don't use the same engine from the Lambo, they reworked it for more torque. Unless you're saying they developed an entirely new 5.2 liter V10 in adition to the one they currently use, then that would be news =P

Man. That thing barely fits in your stall!
