American Honda has indicated that after years of pushing back deadlines and revising product strategy the next generation Acura NSX will arrive in 2010.

President and CEO of America Honda, Tetsuo Iwamura, said recently that Honda is “developing it without any delay, so most probably we will have it in the period we already promised.”

That “period” has shifted dramatically over the last few years, with Honda delaying a planned 2008-2009 launch of the car several times. Everything from a weak reaction to the Acura Sports Car Concept, to the stalled launch of the Acura brand in Japan has contributed to the NSX no-show.

In more positive news, the 2010 launch date may be an indication that the NSX will see American shores before it is released in Japan. Iwamura tantalized Acura fans by saying that thought the introduction order hasn’t been decided on; the U.S. “has a majority of the (Acura) customers – that (is something) you have to think about.”

A 2010 launch for the NSX in the U.S. of A? We’re hopeful, but can you believe it? Have your say in comments.

The ‘Acura’ line, althoug a very good product has not lived up to the expectations of Acura. There is a reason the NSX has been delayed. I can’t this see Acura bringing this to the market when Honda is doing so well and Acura is relatively flat. They’d be smarter to focus on Honda and I doubt youre going to see a Honda badge on this machine in North America.

The first was ugly and it looks like the next gen is even uglier, if that is even possible, it is! Honda is following Toyota in seeing who can build the ugliest cars. So far it is a tie!

My goodness the intellect in those words…

The HSC would have been a proper heir to the NSX legacy. I do not like the Acura concept at all. I hope Road & Track magazine’s preview of the Honda/Acura plan for the future (this is going back a couple of years) does not come into reality. So far, the only major development I have seen from Honda in the past two years has been with the new Accord. Even that seems to have been overshadowed by the CTS and Malibu.

It’s tempting to want Honda to call it quits since Acura has never been able to standout from the pack. It doesn’t have cutting-edge performance like BMW, the long history with Mercedes, or the high reputation for craftsmanship and quality Lexus has. Cadillac, Audi, and Infiniti are on the rise, and Acura seems content with letting itself fall into the shadows.

Don’t bother bringing any NSX replacements unless it is a lightweight mid engine car.

It is not in Honda’s DNA to go for pure speed and power. Fukui is one lost puppy with this on again off again NSX. His high power V10 is trash talk and out of character for “America’s most fuel efficent car company”, especially given the bill for 40 mpg (fleet) by 2020 has been put in place.

Honda philosophy is all about doing more with less. Now fukui want to create more with more in an industry climate heading towards efficency. He is out of sync. Even the future Enzo will be lighter and sporting a blown V8.
