Subaru has released another teaser image of its hotly anticipated new WRX STI.

Marked with the date of its unveiling at the Tokyo Motor Show (October 24), this darkened rear view shows off the beefy fenders and hunkered stance that were hinted at with the first teaser shot. Twin exhausts and a cocky roof spoiler are nice, if expected, touches.

WINDING ROAD readers who’ve passionately debated the new Subaru’s merits against those of the upcoming Mitsubishi Evo X, should mark their calendars for our coverage of the STI launch and more, live from Tokyo next month.

Oh wow. It has a spoiler…

Looks better from the front than from the rear. What’s expected pricing?

Given that it’s a wagony-hatch that’ll haul ass, I’ll still give it a serious look when purchasing my next vehicle.

Too bad it will be totally overshadowed in Tokyo.

Fenders are still an atrocity. Looks like they were carelessly added by one of the Subaru designers 8 year old kids. They don’t blend well at all.

the car looks like BMW X3 from the back, besides having the inappropriately integrated these fenders.

Wow. It looks decidedly…boring.

Yeah, rally style fenders on a rally-based car? Completely unfounded!

The Evo versus STi fight ended like the Nintendo versus Sega. It ended, but with no clear winner, as one just sort of fizzled out; and the standing competitor without inspiration. The Evo X is still an Evo, this thing is about a moving to me as a Mazdaspeed 3.

Considering it looks so decidedly boring, I’ll never be able to fit it in my head that this will be faster than previous STIs.

Did FHI hire Chris Bangle? I’d be thrilled if BMW canned him.

I don’t Subaru is going to fizzle out. The STI still hasn’t been reviewed, so this bad comments on how the car will be are very premature. The 2008 Impreza WRX appears to be more manageable and restrained than before. Performance, from what I have seen, has not improved–only the road manners. I am certain Subaru won’t let the Impreza STI fall flat.

I don’t know if I’d say Nintendo had no inspiration, will. Nintendo’s franchises continued to be the highest in quality, even though Sony eclipsed them in sales. I owned both a PlayStation and Nintendo 64 as a teenager. I had far more PS titles than N64 ones because of the quantity and lower price, but I had more respect for the depth behind Nintendo’s major games. Nintendo took a downturn in the 1990s because it chose to have the N64 use a cartridge format, which was restrictive and expensive (for the developer and consumer). This led to the defection of third-party developers, such as Capcom and Konami.

I have a feeling that Sony is about to lose its top spot for sure. The poor PS3 and PSP hardware and software sales (and constant bad press in magazines and websites) and shuffling of executives are proof of that.

I didn’t mean to get off-topic.

My apologies for the typing errors. I’m watching college football.

I like the back. It pays homage to the BMW M Coupe — the first generation, completely whacko one. Not a bad thing.

Not a bad thing at all.
