‘08 NAIAS: BMW’s X5, 3-Series Diesels Bow in Detroit

BMW 3-series Diesel

If you’re headed to the Detroit auto show looking for BMW’s new diesel offerings, you won’t have to search too hard. Both examples - including an X5 xDrive35d and a 335d - are lined up on the stand, sporting matching “Advanced Diesel Technology” paint schemes.

We’re not sure if what’s incorporated in said diesels is necessarily advanced (we’ve seen Bluetec and other urea-based technologies for quite some time), but having the oil-burning motors in both ranges is a welcome addition - particularly for consumers looking for the low-end torque and overall thrift of a diesel engine coupled with a luxury vehicle.

Diesel cost just as much as Premium Gas in Los Angeles. I hope this gets mileage as good as most people hope. :)

Now if they’d bring the 123d over here, our conversion to the dark side would be complete.
