We’ve just taken delivery of a spanking new Volvo C30 hatch and thought that the stylish Swede would be the perfect subject for this week’s Ask It segment. It’ll be hard to argue with the small Volvo’s looks as we think the car is one of the prettiest hatchbacks on sale today, but questions about the ultimate functionality of the design might not go amiss. Let us know what you ponder when you hear “C30”, in comments.

In the picture it seems significantly larger than the old P1800 shooting brake. Does it have the same feel as that iconic vehicle? Or is it more of a luxury box?

Is it better to drive than the Mazda3 beyond the nicer interior and outside looks?

How many young, greasy Filipino male spa attendants can I stuff in the back?

How far forward to you have to put the front seats when you have a rear facing child seat in back?

Along the same lines as what was already asked, how is it in terms of driving satisfaction, especially as compared to a Mazdaspeed3 or GTI?

Does it hold a candle to the Mini Cooper?

If this one is a manual, is it any good (the shifter)? And, courtesy of the dieselhead philosophy dept: why no R version?

How many espresso makers come standard? How well does it fit into a Whole Foods parking space?

I kid. I actually like the look of this car, although I found the stick shift to be vague when I took one for a test drive, which thereby means I have ruled it out of potential ownership. Although it doesn’t look as good as the C30, the Mazdaspeed3 (which this car is based upon) is the more rewarding (and less expensive) variant of this platform.

How many ping pong balls can you fit in the rear cargo area?

Assuming one of the male writers is doing this video response:

I think the car looks nice, but has anyone (ex: your male friends or random people at the mall) commented on the car being a “feminine car?”

I’d like to see a comparison between the C30 and a GTI.

How obnoxious is that silly rear glass-only hatch? It looks like it would drive me up the wall, but I’ve obviously never lived with it.

what differences between it and the S40?
would you say they were going for sporty or luxurious in overall feel?

with such a short wheelbase, is the ride choppy?

Will there be a five door ?
