‘08 Geneva: Mitsubishi Prototype S Mixes Power and Practicality
Make no mistake - this Mitsubishi Prototype S is no production Lancer wagon - but it's darn near close. Unveiled this morning at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the S is the closest thing we've seen yet to a real-life Lancer Evolution five-door.
In fact, we'd argue that the only conceptual goodies are the LED/neon lighting used in the head, fog and tail lamps, all of which mirror those used on the Concept-RA. The remainder of the car seems as if it's ready to roll down a Mitsubishi production line today. The Prototype-S even sports the ungainly fog tail light mounted smack-dab in the center of the rear bumper fascia. It's not pretty, but it's not a concession to style - it's a concession to production reality (at least in Europe).
Mitsubishi drops even more hints as to the S' viability inside, with an interior that mostly hails from the "run-of-the-mill" Evolution. Show-car touches include a high-tech touchscreen radio and navigation unit, as well as sport seating clad in saddle-toned leather with contrasting stitching. It's a nice look, but we doubt it'll make it to the dealers.
Those dealers may remain outside of America, as we've not heard any official word from Mitsubishi if - or when - the five-door Lancer will make it to our shores. We've heard some varying opinions on the car's styling, but what say you - are you for or against an Evolution with an extra door in the U.S? Sound off in the comments section below.

Stupid big grill. Ugly. Car makers need to stop being lemmings and quit making ugly grills like Audi. I continue to not find the beauty in any recent German car.

I am a big fan of Audi grills, but that is why I wanted to chime in. Looks like an Audi way too much! Try again

What? I can't see how that looks like an Audi. The big black grille is there, but it is very angular and Lancer-like in shape. I can't imagine that grille on anything but a Lancer (or Lancer derivative.) And those headlights are sweet. I wonder when I can see a pair of aftermarket lights like that on a Lancer at night...I think it'd be meeeaaaan.
