Tata’s Nifty Nano: Images Galore!
In our hurry to bring you the breaking story of the Indian car destined to motorize a huge portion of that nation's populace, the $2,500 Tata Nano, we left off giving you a good idea of what the car looks like.
(Click on the thumbnails below to launch a gallery of Nano images or on the jump to read more, including Tata’s official press release.)
Now that the hours-long backlog of eager viewers has eased up on the Tata Motors servers, we thought we’d share a bounty of Nano gallery images. Despite some serious shortcomings in the wheels department, the world’s most inexpensive new car (as reported at any rate) is bright-eyed and cheeky. Though no one will likely vote the Nano into any beauty contests, the car’s upbeat vibe seems spot-on for a “people’s car.

Gotta love those crush zones...

$2500 is amazing... but will it be the new Yugo GL?
Now, if the tuner crowd can get their hooks on that thing...

If this vehicle was ever to be federalized for U.S. consumption, the new price would be $12,500.

Interior looks more like $1.500. The exterior design looks ok for a car that cheap. I can't believe it's cheaper than my computer.
Still, those wheels...

I wonder where Don got that number?

I'd buy that for a dollar!
Seriously for $2,500, it's impressive. The styling is goofy, especially the small tires, but this could be valuable transportation for a lot of people.

Looks like a well thought out vehicle that will be ideal for it's target market.
Seems so toy-like, but then you see that it has three pedals and a gear changer and you're reminded it's a proper car.

I love they way they made pseudo storage bins out of the solid plastic in the interior without having to use extra money to carve out a closing glove box. Great thinking there. I'd love to see a side to side comparo between this car and the Smart ForTwo.

People need to start realizing that transportation is not a luxury, it is a necessity. You need to get from point A to point B. Doing so in luxury is an act of ego, which our economy and our planet cannot afford. It is about time that engineers start to develop cars that are practical. Designs should be simple and to the point. Safety and quality must always be high however, because we are trusting these machines with our lives. I personally would rather be able to purchase and own a car outright, instead of paying for years on a car that quite frankly is no better. It just looks better. The automotive industry is full of high priced cars and dealers that rip people off on a daily basis. What do we get for such a high price? A gas guzzler that looks good and feeds our ego, yet breaks down just as much as cheaper cars. Try to get a high priced car repaired. You could buy another Nano for less than the price of a common repair at a local dealer!
I could easily see a car like this being converted to an electric. I can see all kinds of kits being made available to 'trick them out' in any fashion an owner would wish. I can imagine all kinds of paint jobs that would personalize and make a Nano 'cool' to feed our egos. The Nano is not a step down, but an opportunity to step up.
Small wheels? How many of you know how much power it takes to turn larger wheels? Small engines? How many of you are allowed to race around the streets like a hot rod? None! So why buy a car with 300 HP, all so you can drive 25 mph through town? Sheer stupidity! Wasteful! We need small, practical and fairly priced cars. The Nano and others like it are a practical and intelligent step in the right direction.

Sure glad I don't live in India.

WOW! A new car for $2,500 dollars. And good gas MPG! I'll take seven of them. When and where can I get one in the United States of America? Sounds like a great car for around town and commuting to work. I cant wait to see what the near future brings. Maybe things are going to turn out OK!
Thanks,
Air Ed.........

$2,500.........How can they do this? A good garden tractot/Lawn mower is more than that. A 500cc twin, Motorcycle cost twice that,an EZ-GO golf cart is much more than that. This price will change. If it weights 1200 lbs. $2.00 a pound wouldn't buy the material to build it.
