General Motors Design Chief Inspired by Indian Functionality
Edward Welburn Jr., chief designer for General Motors and the man responsible for such multifarious vehicles as the Oldsmobile Aerotech concept and the Cadillac Escalade, is apparently a great fan of simplicity.
(Click through the jump to read on about what Welburn admires in Indian design.)
Specifically, Welburn seems to have a great fondness for that ubiquitous denizen of urban Indian life, the autorickshaw. The scooter-meets-buggy autorickshaw, which helps to mobilize millions of Indians everyday, is looked at by Welburn (who keeps a model of the vehicle on his desk) as a simple, creative, and functional design. Says Welburn of the vehicle, ““It is easy to enter as well as exit and is very affordable. It is something which every vehicle should be.

I too am interested in what this $2500.00 car will look like. We look at this autorickshaw and probably don't take it serious but I'll bet the "Greenies" like it.

no they dont the project 2500$ car is everything but green. it's something like ford escort from 1989 a little bit more shiny with same old tech features no extras at all and because in india they don't have eco restrictions there is no catalytic converter.....
the car is very simple very light and probably not bad looking. that what this people need. they dont care about ecology and stuff.
dacia logan it's a 5000$ car made in romania which is europe it's based on renault megan from 1994-5-6 i dont know an old tech car with new face and they selling like 200-300000 every year. and the sales are going up with every next one.a lot of people from eastern europe and russia bying this car cause is cheap.
the cheap car market is growing fast and soon i'm sure every automaker will have a specific model or brand.
it's good for a lot of people but not for the earth.....

GM already made a 2500 dollar car. It's called a 2003 Cavalier.
