Sleight of Hand: Pontiac Sells 25 Azteks in 2007
The Pontiac Aztek is possibly the most laughable production car of our time, a corpulent-looking body contour, awful trim and an awkward rear-end. Hell, even Time Magazine named it one of the 50 Worst Cars Ever Made saying, “This car could not have been more instantly hated if it had a Swastika on its forehead.

The guy that parks beside me in my home parking lot has one of these. He likes to open the doors really wide so that he takes the paint off my car. These are the kind of people that buy Aztecs. They get what they deserve.

What is today's quote on scrap metal?

Hey, the Aztek is not any uglier than a ton of other SUVs & crossovers out there. And since it's built on the same platform as some other GM products, they should be considered just as lousy.
But Time magazine saying this is one of the worst cars of all time is really not much different than the editors at "Highlights for Children" rating the latest Jenna Jameson video. Time magazine should stick to their knitting.
Jeb
The people who bought these probably cross-shopped the Honda Element but wanted to buy American.

Incentive: Meet Survivor winner when you buy an Aztek. He'll help you hook up a tent to the back end of it and camp out with you while you ward off tigers.
VMMVMMM
Sounds like Paul owns an Aztek.
I agree that Time magazine was a bit off on the Aztek - they were far to easy on it. This is the ugliest, most laughable, best example of idiot decision making that has ever been manufactured.
The incentive that would have to be given for me to purchase an Aztek? Toss in a free Solstice or a G8 and then point me to the nearest cliff.

Maybe Pontiac should have sold this car with paper bags for the driver and passengers to wear so no one could recognize them.

A friend's mother has one of these. She goes camping frequently and takes her two enormous dogs with her. She thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread.
The only thing I don't get is why Dodge decided to steal the design and smear it all over the Caliber, which is pretty much an Aztek that looks like it's been stepped on.

Incentive to buy an Aztek...No Money Down, 0% Interest and No Social Security number required.
or maybe spend the night with Mrs. Jolie-Pitt

The fact that those Azteks sat on the lot for nearly three years waiting to be sold speaks volumes.

While I think the Aztek's comedic front-end is it's biggest styling gaff, the rest of it is hardly more offensive than most of the remaining number of retina searing objects known as SUVs/crossovers/MAVs/CUVs/MPVs/CAVs, etc.
So many lumps and bumps, weird cut lines and grooves, awkwardly shaped head/tail/fog lamps, obnoxious fender flares and incoherent creases, bumper cutouts, and window shapes. All in attempt to toughen-up the image of what are essentially hefty, ill-handling station wagons.

I actually have two customers that own Aztecs and they both say that they are the best vehicle they have ever owned?! Don't shoot the messenger...I don't get it either! Believe it or not, one of the guys also drives a C6 vette!!!
Bart
Sure they're hideous to look at. But I know a number of people who got these because they were the roomiest thing for the money available. They have no regrets. Lot's of people don't have the luxery of caring what a car looks like. And these things apparently work plenty well enough considering the actual out-the-door price. Besides, many Aztecs have tinted glass so you can't be seen.
Oh, and yes I own an Element, which is a thing of beauty in comparison.
Rip
Incentive - well I guess I'd buy one if you'd throw in a C7 Vette. Would I have to keep the Aztek?

Incentive to buy an Aztek? Hmm, I dont know, maybe throw in Brazil..??

Give one to me free & clear - so I can part it out. That's when I'd take one.
Chris
Yeah, everybody loves to pile on, but I agree with the guy who made the connection with the Caliber. Take a fresh look, mooks, the Aztek has become the Bangle of the crossover/SUV/mouthbreathermobile. In fact, I just took one more glance up at the photo, and I see BMW X6 here. If you buy an X6, us who remember will be seeing Aztek. Instant status.
Trinks
They're probably dirt cheap now with low miles. Maybe people figure they're getting a better deal than those subcompacts that sell for the same price.
Rex
DANG! Scratch you beat me to it.
My guess is Dealer had these during some Remodel of Dealership and found them in storage area/lot sold them for steep discounts.
Or maybe Pontiac had these in employee lots and just found out they didn't belong to any employees and just sold'em.

At a cost of about 10 cents/lb., 25 Azteks might make a nice artificial reef. I can't imagine anyone would actually drive one...unless they were handsomely compensated and had a good disguise.
dan
Well ... Rosie O'Donald drives one if that tells you anything!
Bald-win
Free car, free maintenance, free gas, free insurance and replace it with a free Camaro in two years. I would consider this an acceptable incentive.
Gillian
I saw two Azteks on the road in the last week. They looked fairly shiny and new too. Weird. Well, maybe not so weird. I was in the Oshawa area, the Canadian home of GM.
