New York Auto Show: Ford Flex Live Shots
Our art director, Nate Luzod, just returned from the Ford press conference and has filed these shots of the company’s pivotal new Flex people-mover. The crossover-estate-type-thing's available Mini-esque roof treatment will certainly set a few tongues wagging, but it could be exactly the sort of differentiation in the marketplace that Ford will be able to exploit.

Enough with the SUVs already, Ford. I'm losing count. And I can just hear the sqeaking of that cheap plastic interior already ("Flex" indeed). I do love the random strip of fake wood above the instrument cluster, however.
The exterior styling is pretty cool though. With the white roof it looks like a bloated Mini Cooper.
TT
They ruined the Fairlane concept. Totally different proportions, looks like a station wagon, where the Fairlane was much more compact appearing. The Flex looks a bit overstyled, especially that metallic rear end.
Don
It's better looking than the Edge.
Hopefully it becomes a hit.

Does anyone really need a weather map of the entire US on their dashboard?

HAHAHA!

this is infinitly more appealing than the other 3 row offerings(the enclave and outlook being the exceptions). knowing ford, it will be priced well below the competition. noone does the american family hauler as well as ford, i hope they sell a bagillion of these.

Like the outside, but the inside looks cheaper than a Taurus.

frankly, I did not like the design (neither exterior nor interior). the exterior looks like an elongated and beefed up scion xb. the interior looks cheap. ford will price it below its competitors but well it be as reliable as the competitors that is the real question. ford build quility has been disappointing in the past 2 decades. When is the company gonna change??

"Oh my, GAWWWWD! Is that you? Oh, honey, I remember you when you were just the Freestyle. And your stint as Taurus X certainly didn't do you any favors. Let's just mark a big old X over that entire episode because it's a hole new you on the outside. So, who is your plastic surgeon?" Is that the Freestyle underneath? Because the interior has me thinking so.
(And, TT, I agree, it looses much about what made the Fairlane concept appealing. It looks more SUV than people mover. Plus too much front overhang.)

What most people fail to see is the Utility that this SUV is capable of. I have looked at pretty , much every SUV on the market and some of them while they look great, just dont have the utility I need. Smaller SUV's, like the Honda CRV, while its a beautiful looking SUV, its still just a 4 seater with a little extra space in the back. As far as Full size SUV's, gas hogs, plain and simple. Ford has managed to put togther 2 vehicles now, that get fairly good gas mileage and have a ton of utility (7 passanger seatng, all wheel drive etc... the perfect family hauler, thats who these cars are marketed for.) When you boil it down, thats what most people need. If you wan a car simply for style, buy a Ferrari or Masarati

it's a while new category of vehicle! they should call it a...i don't know, STATION WAGON or something. totally modern! and what's that--a WHITE ROOF? WHAT CRAZY THING WILL THEY THINK OF NEXT! man, the future sure is exciting!

In the meantime, could someone from WR do a commentary on why cars no longer have passenger windows?
I just noticed the tall door sills. Are we afraid our children might see something?
Doug
looks cool, seems nice, is this really what ford needs to save itself?
i dont think so.
Greg
THEIR TOTALLY COPPIED OF THE FORD TAURUS X!!
John W.
drop a 5.4 in it and kick some magnum RT ass. no?
any info on what platform or engine it has?

i personally dont think that this vehicel is gonna sall that good........its ugly and ford has go to get rid of navstar....its sucks thats it
Greg
I think the vehicle is really big because when you look in the enteroir it looks huge but compared to the outside its smaller! I think the chrome on the back makes it an interesting vehicle!
