Earlier this week Infiniti dropped the wraps on its 2009 FX model at the Geneva Motor Show – sorry, we couldn’t get to everything in two days.

The second-generation Infiniti FX crossover features an all-new 390-horsepower, 5.0-liter 32-valve DOHC V-8 (a V-6 will be available, but Infiniti didn’t provide the details, yet). The crossover also features a seven-speed automatic with Adaptive Shift Control and an available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.

Infiniti is also offering a sport package for the 2009 FX. It includes Continuous Damping Control, Rear-Active Steer, and 21-inch alloys.

The interior features all of the luxury perks you’d expect from Infiniti, including sport seating, nav system, and an 11-speaker Bose audio system.

PRESS RELEASE:

2009 Infiniti FX Makes World Debut at Geneva Motor Show [Mar. 4, 08]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 4, 2008) – Infiniti today revealed the all-new 2009 Infiniti FX performance luxury crossover in conjunction with the Geneva Motor Show. The second-generation FX, with its fusion of sports car and SUV design, will be offered in three models, including a new 5.0-liter V8-equipped Infiniti FX50. The 2009 FX is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti dealers in the United States and Canada in June 2008.

The new FX’s world debut in Geneva was hosted by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO Carlos Ghosn, who also announced details of Infiniti’s plans to enter the Western European market in the last quarter of 2008.

About the 2009 Infiniti FX
The all-new second-generation Infiniti FX is designed to offer exceptional levels of power, refinement, safety and driving exhilaration. Created as a fusion of sports car and SUV utility, with head-turning styling and an advanced sports sedan platform, the new FX is a showcase of Infiniti’s design and technology leadership.

Along with its dramatic, aerodynamic body structure and sporty FM (Front Midship) platform, the new FX features a extensive list of available equipment and technology designed to create an exciting and rewarding driving experience – including a new 390-horsepower 5.0-liter 32-valve DOHC V8 or advanced V6 engine (V6 details to be released later), 7-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control and available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.

The new Infiniti FX also offers a wide range of available safety technologies, including:
· Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA), which provides forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking
· Lane Departure Warning/Lane Departure Prevention system, which help keep the vehicle in its travel lane
· Intelligent Cruise Control (Full Speed Range), maintains a pre-set distance with the vehicle ahead at speeds between 0-90 mph
· And the industry’s first application of Distance Control Assist (DCA), which helps reduce the stress of driving in heavy traffic by intuitively helping to release the throttle and apply the brakes to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead

The 2009 Infiniti FX’s trademark performance characteristics are enhanced with a refined 4-wheel independent suspension and large 4-wheel disc brakes with available opposed-piston brake calipers. A new, available FX Sport Package includes a Continuous Damping Control (CDC) suspension, Rear-Active Steer and 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

Inside, the new FX interior provides a warm, modern, inviting environment highlighted by a driver-oriented cockpit with available sport seating and advanced audio, navigation and entertainment systems – including an 11-speaker Boseâ audio system, Infiniti Intelligent Key and Around View Monitor system.

I’m sure this a better car in every functional sense than the one before but; the outgoing car is the best looking CUV built. This new one is ugly from the A-Pillar forward.

The gills behind the front wheels make it look like a Saturn Vue.

They have ruined what easily was the best-looking crossover on the road. For shame.

LOL! Wow, I think this looks great and I general don’t like SUV’s.

Reminds me of that high-speed bus that they said looked like the monster from Alien. Apparently, aerodynamics is driving them in the same direction.

they made a huge mistake with the gills and the front lights. the lights should’ve remained smooth, that was the magical issue of the current FX (smoothness).

Nice engine, I do want to hear about the V6

What is this SUV so angry about? Gas prices? Definitely NOT a CUV.

For whatever reason, this model falls victim to the Infiniti distortion of they don’t look good in pictures. I was lukewarm on the G37 in pictures until I saw it in 3D sheetmetal. The same can be said for the FX: I first thought Hyundai Santa Fe when I saw the Geneva pics on the web, but within a week, an FX35 was at our Nissan production plant. It looks WAY better than any of these pictures convey.

With the dual air intakes, the V6 looks ripe for the picking to be customized to a twin turbo to give the GT-R some competition…in a straight line anyway.

The interior is amazing. No practical use for the back seats, but the vehicle will carry four adults as long as those sitting in the back seat have small feet and short legs.

Overall, a subtle and very nice improvement of the outgoing model.
