One of the surprise debuts at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, Cadillac seems to be moving right along with the development of its forthcoming Cadillac CTS Coupe.

Breda Priddy & Company were able to capture these new images of the two-door Cadillac, which could be dubbed the CTC when it begins production in May of 2009. The best news related to these new pictures seems to be that the coupe looks a lot like the attractive concept car, with the largest variation from the show version looking to be the revised front fascia.

Priddy also tips in with the fact that the Coupe will come equipped with a backup camera not found on the sedan version, as well as a “touch pad setup” in place of standard door handles. Check out our gallery of CTS coupe spies below, and then give us your thoughts on the tester in comments.

Closely based on the concept, we caught what is obviously the Cadillac CTS Coupe – although sources speculate that name may actually be CTC when it reaches production in May of 2009.

Codenamed GMX226, the stylish couple will be built along side the CTS sedan at the Lansing Grand River Plant.

The coupe will feature a backup camera which is not currently found on the sedan, and won’t have tradition door handles, but touch pad setup instead

Styling wise, it obviously follows the concept VERY closely. Even the dual exhaust will make production. Only the concept front end may see a modest toning down to bring it inline with the CTS sedan.

Call me paranoid, but doesn’t the lack of mech door handles mean that in a post-crash scenario, emergency responders won’t have a way to unlatch the doors if the power is cut?

I would love to see a CTS coupe V version with the supercharged 6.2 liter V8

Jeb- you don’t have to be paranoid (although when people are out to get you, it’s good policy) just wait for the battery to run down. Can’t open the hood to set up a jumper because you can’t open the door. Recent experience with a completely dead battery leaves NOTHING working.

I’m thinking more along the lines of the Murcielago disaster where one rolled, ended up on its back, and on fire, and the occupants were trapped and died (scissor doors don’t open when two tons of car are in the way). But your example is pretty damn good too. :)

The truck shows more in this then the concept, which looked closer to a notchback

Touch pad locks that so late eighties Ford. ;)
Good to see GM using some out-the-box thinking. As this car will go to those that don’t care how much fuel costs. I think GM should Now start working on a Beat/Groove/Trax vehicle before gas thats to $4.00 a gallon. :)

Rex, I am sure this will be a very advanced touch pad and will give this car’s doors a very smooth and slick look

The CTS coupe illustrates an unfortunate emphasis found in this take of an old axiom, ‘all show but what about go?’ While the styling is stunning, the real news goes to the possibility of the availability of a diesel (or is that option not to be made available in the States?)Lets hope there is some refinement in the details, i.e. real fuel economy, sufficient headroom, trunk space and the safety details (see comments about the electronic door handles, though I’d presume that there exists a mechanical over-ride to address the ‘dead battery’ concerns.) the touchpad doors would probably be similar to the corvette which works pretty well…hopefully it comes in awd with the manual transmission…not a bad idea for the 4-dr either…j

Guy’s,wouldn’tdo any good to pop the hood for battery accsess,Caddy’s havent had underhood batteries for quite a few years now.I retired from Poletown,(DET/HAM.ASS.DIV.)in 06, and they were puttin em under the backseat.I’d like to know how that emergency door unlock would work though.

Once and for all stop comparing it to the BMW 3 series — it’s NOT a 3 series size car — compare it to the Infinity M series, or the BMW 5 series, whatever– and it’s a bargain and the V model will blow away the other’s best efforts in value also. Can’t wait to get my hands on an all wheel drive CTC - at least 5 years too late for America but better latge than never……… what took you so long USA? Now, let’s see what Lincoln comes up with for the rebirth / replacement of the Mark VIII - some American sportsman can really have some nice home grown metal from which to choose.

Just like XLR and Corvette there is a back up mechanical release for the drivers door. Upside down on fire and cant get out???? Rescue workers/paramedics arent running around looking for door handles…..ever hear of Jaws of Life?????? Go ahead bash GM for out of touch………do you know the lead time to put something like the CTS coupe into production……..plus are you bashing Mercedes Benz for their SL 65 AMG Black Series with 670hp?

Jeff April 29th, 2008 9:43 AM Link

I agree with Bob. I sat in a 3 series and a CTS back to back at the auto show. The CTS is way out of the 3 series league in terms of size and luxury. The two really are not comparable on features. Think of the CTS as a 5 series with a 3 series price tag.
