I’ve driven a V6 300 and let me tell you…..what a turd, step on the loud pedal and nothing happens. This will be a waist of time in the Challenger. They are just to heavy for that little power.
It has been reported that Dodge is likely to show off both an R/T, and a V-6 powered version of its Challenger sports car at the 2008 New York Auto Show.
The news comes following a statement by Chrysler President Jim Press in response to questions about the down-market Challengers saying, “Just wait until New York.” Not exactly cryptic then.
The R/T Challenger is expected to come equipped with a smaller 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, while the base model will probably be motivated by Chrysler’s 3.5-liter V-6, and could be called the SXT. Stay tuned to WINDING ROAD News for more Challenger info as we have it, including our own glorious coverage of the NYC show next month.

There are two different 6cyl that could have been in the 300 you drove MJK, the 2.7 is a turd, the 3.5 isnt to bad. I would assume the 2009 R/T will have the updated for 09 VVT 5.7 with 380HP or more, thats what the 09 trucks will have, we shall see. I know its a pretty heavy car, and alot of people are downing this car, I just cant see this car bombing out like so many people seem to think.
I just don’t think they need to worry about such a broad spectrum with this car, 5.7..great 6.1..even better. (or 6.3 I believe is on the way). Those are the two options that make sense to me. I don’t see this car going in the production number range of a Mustang so why worry about have a “base” v6 car to compete. Keep it an “aspirational” car if all the talk of killing the Viper is true. Keep the volumes low and the demand high.
